Celebrations, reflections, music, red collared blazers and goodbyes. 💙❤️

Our annual Prize Giving was filled with those traditional moments that make Hawthorns so special.

More than 90 prizes and awards celebrated achievement across school life, while our new Year 7 pupils received their coveted Upper School red-collared blazers, our new Year 8 pupils received their positions of responsibility, and our Year 8 leavers shared memories of their time at Hawthorns.

Then came the emotional final walk out... our Year 8 leavers proudly processing from Prize Giving, beginning their next chapter as Old Hawthornians.

A huge thank you to our guest speaker, Lieutenant Colonel James Shaw LVO, who served in the Grenadier Guards and British Army from 2003 to 2025 and was responsible for arranging the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. Speaking about the importance of teamwork, he shared fascinating insights from his remarkable career and reminded our pupils of what can be achieved when we work together towards a common goal.

During their final week at School, our Year 8 pupils hosted a special formal dinner to thank their parents and the teachers who have supported them throughout their Hawthorns journey.

From planning the menu with our Catering Team and laying and decorating the tables, to welcoming and hosting their guests, serving dinner and providing the musical entertainment, our pupils took responsibility for the entire evening.

Dressed in their evening wear and sitting with parents other than their own, they confidently led conversations and ensured every guest felt welcome. A rolling presentation celebrated each pupil’s journey through Hawthorns, providing a wonderful reminder of just how far they have come.

A wonderful Hawthorns tradition, our Year 8 Leavers’ Dinner 2026 was a very special evening of thanks — and a fitting celebration of the confidence, independence and character our pupils take with them as they begin their next exciting chapter. ✨

🦖 Dinosaur Takeover at The Hawthorns! 🦕

Our Year 8s certainly lived up to the tradition of Muck Up Morning today! On their final morning at The Hawthorns, they transformed the school into a prehistoric playground as dinosaurs squirted arriving cars with water pistols and roamed the courtyards.

There were plenty of smiles, lots of laughter, and just the right amount of fun mayhem to mark the end of their time with us. Thank you, Year 8, for embracing the tradition with such creativity!

We are delighted to share some exciting news!

The Governors of The Hawthorns School are pleased to announce that Mr Andy Morris, our current Deputy Head, has been appointed as the next Head of The Hawthorns, taking up the role in September 2027 following the retirement of Mr Adrian Floyd after 12 years of outstanding service.

Following a highly competitive recruitment process, Mr Morris's appointment reflects his exceptional leadership, deep understanding of our school, and inspiring vision for the future.

Mr Morris said: "I am truly honoured and delighted to have been appointed as the new Head of The Hawthorns. Having seen the school's commitment to nurturing, inspiring and challenging every child, I am excited to build on its strengths and successes. I look forward to working closely with our pupils, staff and families as we continue to provide an exceptional educational experience for every child."

Over the coming year, Mr Morris will work closely with Mr Floyd to ensure a seamless transition as The Hawthorns continues to build on its reputation for excellence and maximise the opportunities presented through the Caterham Family of Schools.

🌟Surrey Cup Final

We hosted the U11 girls Surrey Cup Final on Tuesday between The Hawthorns and Hoe Bridge, both teams battling it out for the trophy.

Hoe Bridge batted first and started well before being pegged back by some good bowling in the middle overs. A late flurry of runs meant that we would be chasing 117 to win.

We faced some fast and accurate bowling which tore through our top order meaning we fell short in our chase. A huge congratulations to Hoe Bridge who deserved their win.

Our U11 girls have enjoyed a brilliant season, only losing one match. They have showed endless positivity, a strong work ethic and great teamwork. They should be very proud of their efforts. Well done girls!

What a fantastic day we had at our Nursery Sports Day! The children had so much fun taking part in a variety of exciting races and activities, showing great enthusiasm and determination.

☀️🎶 Sunshine, smiles and sensational music! 🎶☀️

The sunshine was the perfect backdrop for our annual Summer Term Ensemble Concert this week!

Families, friends and staff were treated to a fantastic showcase of talent from our three school choirs, The Hawthorns School Orchestra, and our cello, flute and violin ensembles.

Highlights included the orchestra’s thrilling performance of In the Hall of the Mountain King, which was a particular hit with our younger audience members, and the Junior Choir’s inspiring rendition of Go the Distance, featuring beautiful solos from our Year 4 singers. The Lower School Choir delighted us with Bare Necessities, while the Senior Choir had everyone tapping along to You Can’t Stop the Beat from Hairspray, complete with a wonderful solo from Bryony Frost.

✨ A particularly special moment came from our Year 8 leavers, William and Adeleine, whose moving duet of Voilà was a heartfelt celebration of their musical journey at The Hawthorns.

A huge thank you to all our performers, families and staff for making the concert such a memorable occasion. Special thanks also go to Emma Saklatvala, our incredible Head of Music, and our dedicated team of peripatetic music teachers, whose expertise, encouragement and enthusiasm inspire our pupils every day.
