“I’m bored.”
Good. Be bored.

Raising kids isn’t about keeping them busy, it’s about teaching them to be okay when they’re not.

Somewhere along the way, parents got tricked into thinking a “good” parent keeps their kids constantly busy with toys, activities, screens, and stimulation 24/7.

But that’s not raising capable kids. That’s raising kids who can’t sit still with their own thoughts.

Boredom builds creativity.
It teaches patience.
It sparks imagination.

When kids get bored, they start to think. They start to create. They learn to be content without constant entertainment, and that’s a life skill most adults are still trying to learn.

So no, I don’t always hand them a tablet or find something fun to do.
Sometimes I just tell them, it’s okay to be bored.

Magda Ge**er inspired me to realize that I could have “basic trust” in my baby to develop according to her own inner timetable. Oh, what a relief it was! Through trust I experienced a radical transformation in both perception and experience: first, by discovering my baby’s astounding natural abilities to learn without being taught, to develop motor and cognitive skills, communicate, face age appropriate struggles, initiate and direct independent play for extended periods and much more; then by realizing the tremendous energy and stress I had been wasting by struggling to entertain, teach, and second-guess my child.

Testing can tell us if a child has learned what they should have learned, but it doesn't measure their other important quality traits.
