Dorset Rural Music School Community music school offering a wide range of musical tuition to individuals and groups of any age in a friendly and supportive environment.

Dorset Music School was formed in 1947 to promote music throughout the county as part of a country wide initiative at the end of the Second World War, but is now the only one of its type still to be in existence. We have several practice rooms as well as a small performance space which is available for hire by the community if required. We have some disabled access, and are working to improve this

. We offer a wide range of music tuition, including singing, and welcome pupils of all ages. Some of our pupils are still in primary school, and some have retired and decided to learn a new skill. We also offer music appreciation classes and run a singing group, as well as being involved with local orchestral groups. From time to time we put on performances either by pupils, or by some of the many professional musicians who work with the school. We believe that music should be at the heart of every community as a way of bringing joy into everyday life. Come and visit us and see what you think.
