A B&FC Gateway student has been officially sworn in as the new Youth Mayor of Wyre Borough Council for 2025/26. 👏

The appointment of Horateo Broomhall was confirmed alongside the investiture of the next Mayor and Deputy Mayor at Wyre’s Annual Council meeting last Thursday.

The 17-year-old (pictured with new Wyre Mayor, Cllr Steve Nicholls) has been recognised as a positive local role model and is also set to progress to Bispham campus to begin a Health & Social Care course in September. ✨

Jane Francis, Learning Support Assistant at B&FC, said: “ As well as being Vice President for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Horateo is also the Student Rep for his class and sits on the Children in Care Panel and Care Leavers Forum for Lancashire County Council.”

“Horateo is a great character! His attendance is impeccable, and he also works part time at Sandcastle Waterpark. We are all very proud of the progress that he is making – and his activism in the local community.”

This is also not Horateo’s first civic honour. He was awarded The Sheraton Trophy in 2024 which annually recognises one rising star who has brought pride to the Wyre borough through their achievements. ⭐
