🎶💃 What has singing and dancing got to do with learning to write? 💃🎶

Probably more than you think!

At Little Learners, we don't just sing and dance because it's fun (although it definitely is! 😊). Every action song and movement activity has a purpose.

When children dance, clap, stretch, cross the midline and move their whole bodies, they're developing the essential foundations needed for writing, including:

✨ Gross motor skills
✨ Core strength and posture
✨ Shoulder stability
✨ Bilateral coordination (using both sides of the body together)
✨ Crossing the midline – an important skill for fluent writing
✨ Rhythm, listening and following instructions
✨ Communication and language skills

Before little hands can confidently hold a pencil, big muscles need to be strong and stable.

That's why every Little Learners session combines movement, music and messy play. Together they build the confidence, coordination and control children need to become successful writers later on.

So next time you see us singing, dancing and wiggling, remember... we're not just having fun (although we are! 😉)... we're building the foundations for early writing, one song at a time. 💜✏️

✏️ Learning to write doesn't start with a pencil and paper... ✏️

It starts much earlier than that.

It starts with discovering that you can make marks in almost anything... with your hands, feet, toy cars, paintbrushes, sticks or even your fingers in a tray of custard!

Before a child is ready to hold a pencil, they first need to develop the building blocks for writing. Through messy and sensory play, children are developing:

💜 Fine motor strength to hold and control a pencil
💜 Gross motor skills and shoulder stability to support writing
💜 Hand-eye coordination
💜 Core strength and posture
💜 Bilateral coordination (using both sides of the body together)
💜 Sensory awareness and exploration
💜 Creativity, confidence and curiosity
💜 An understanding of cause and effect through mark making

Every scoop, splash, squish and scribble is helping to lay the foundations for future writing.

At Little Learners Fylde Coast, we believe children learn best when they're having fun. That's why every messy tray, paint station and sensory activity is carefully planned to support those all-important early years skills—without children even realising they're learning!

Because every great writer starts with their very first mark. 💜✨
