📖 Newhouse Lending Library 📖

We have begun our lending library make over and we are so excited for our families to enjoy this space together.

Books play a vital role in early childhood development. Sharing stories supports language development, builds vocabulary, strengthens listening and attention skills, and sparks imagination.

Reading together supports emotional development, helping children understand feelings, empathy, and the world around them.

Most importantly, developing a love of books early on supports the foundation for lifelong learning.

👻👹Little Monsters 👻👹

In Preschool this week we have been enjoying reading "Little Monsters" as our book of the week. We have been Confident Communicators focusing on our listening and attention skills and enjoyed Courtney reading us the the story.

We then worked on being Logical Learners and Motivated Movers as we talked about how each monster in our story looked different, discussing their colours, hair and facial features whilst creating our own creations. We identified lots of spooky characters in the story, including a zombie, a mummy and a ghost which sparked conversation about Halloween and fancy dress costumes.

♥️🕰️🐭 Hickory Dickory Dock 🕰️🐭♥️

This week in Babies, our Nursery Rhyme of The Week is 'Hickory, Dickory, Dock'.

First we listened to our Rhyme of The Week, and learnt some actions to go alongside the song, becoming Logical Learners.

Outside, we enjoyed exploring the water tray in our new outdoor environment, splashing in the water, filling up the cups and pouring them back out again. We also enjoyed counting from 1 - 5 and feeling the texture of the foam numbers.

Confident Communicators:

🎶Singing nursery rhymes to babies supports language development, cognitive growth, emotional bonding, and sensory learning from the earliest months.

📖Language and Literacy Development

🗣 Nursery rhymes help babies develop phonological awareness, which is the ability to recognize sounds within words, a key predictor of later reading and literacy skills.

🎵The rhythmic patterns, repetition, and melody of songs make it easier for babies to pick up sounds, syllables, and eventually words, even before they can speak.

🧡💚Toddlers Fine Motor Skills Activity💚🧡

Toddlers are becoming Logical Learners and have been busy practising our scissor skills and fine motor skills through a fun leaf-cutting activity! 🍃✂️

We independently chose which style of scissors we wanted to use and recognised when we needed to swap scissors with our friends and having a go with both types.

We were encouraged to choose our own patterns that we wanted to practise following lines, controlling our scissors and developing our hand-eye coordination.

The children showed great concentration and perseverance as they carefully snipped along the lines. Some children found certain patterns trickier than others, but they kept trying and were proud of their efforts!

It was lovely to see the children developing their independence, confidence, hand strength, coordination and fine motor control while having lots of fun with our leafy activity. ✂️

🧡 💚 Working in Partnership 💚 🧡

This week Claire visited one of the local Family Hubs with one of our sister nurseries to attend the Blackpool Better Start information evening.

This was a fantastic opportunity to connect with local agencies, community organisations and other professionals who share the same passions for supporting our children, families and the wider community.

The evening provided a valuable opportunity to build new relationships whilst strengthening existing connections and exploring future training opportunities for the staff team at Newhouse to better support the children and families we work with every day.

What a fantastic event for the family to celebrate Stanley Parks 100th Birthday as well as The National Year of Reading

🥔 Supertato 🥔

Today in Toddlers we have enjoyed listening to our new story of the week, 'Supertato!' Today we have begun to explore our story in play by creating our own Supertato creations which provided opportunities to support with:

- The development of our fine motor skills
- Our creativity and imagination
- Our hand-eye coordination skills
- Communication skills
