L – LANGUAGE.

Language unlocks learning.
Communication and language sit at the heart of the BLOSSOM curriculum.

We want children to become confident communicators who can understand others, express ideas, build relationships, ask questions, negotiate, tell stories and make sense of their world.

What We Want Children to Learn
Children progressively develop:
Attention → Understanding → Vocabulary → Conversation → Storytelling → Confident Communication

Children learn to:
🌸attend to another person
🌸understand familiar words and instructions
🌸communicate wants and needs
🌸learn and use new vocabulary
🌸take conversational turns
🌸ask and answer questions
🌸describe what they notice
🌸explain their thinking
🌸recall experiences
🌸retell familiar stories
🌸invent narratives
🌸express increasingly complex ideas

How We Teach It
Adults:
🌸comment more than they question
🌸follow children’s interests
🌸give children time to respond
🌸introduce ambitious vocabulary naturally
🌸repeat and extend children’s language
🌸sing throughout the day
🌸share high-quality books
🌸use stories, rhymes and oral storytelling
🌸encourage sustained shared thinking
🌸model rich conversational language
🌸revisit vocabulary through meaningful experiences

Vocabulary is deliberately revisited so children can hear it, understand it and eventually use it independently.

Children BLOSSOM when they can say:
“I have something to say, and people listen to me.”

B – BELONGING

Before children can flourish, they must first feel that they belong.🙏

We want every child to develop secure relationships and a strong sense of identity. Children should know that they are valued members of our Blossom & Bee community and that their family, culture, experiences and individuality are important.

Children progressively learn to:
🌸form secure attachments
🌸separate from familiar adults with increasing confidence
🌸recognise themselves as an individual
🌸identify important people in their lives
🌸develop friendships
🌸participate in a group
🌸share spaces and resources
🌸understand simple boundaries
🌸recognise similarities and differences
🌸show kindness and empathy
🌸respect different families, cultures and communities
🌸develop a positive sense of self

How We Teach It
We provide:
🌸sensitive settling-in experiences
🌸strong key-person relationships
🌸consistent routines
🌸family photographs and familiar objects
🌸small-group experiences
🌸collaborative projects
🌸stories representing diverse families and communities
🌸opportunities for children to contribute to their environment
🌸warm, respectful adult interactions
🌸celebrations of children’s home experiences and cultures

Adults model empathy, kindness, respect and positive relationships.

Children BLOSSOM when they can say:
“I belong here. I am important. Other people are important too.”

It’s the Blossom Way!🌸🐝

🌸 ABOUT THE OWNER 🐝

Hi, I’m Bee - the owner and founder of Blossom & Bee.🤍

For me, early years isn’t simply about childcare. It’s about creating a place where children feel safe, loved, understood and completely free to be themselves.

My journey began as a Nursery Apprentice in 2018, qualifying in 2019 and progressing to be Room Leader and Deputy Manager.
After having my second child in 2022, I became a childminder, where I was incredibly proud to achieve two Outstanding inspections.
🌿

I’ve always believed that childhood shouldn’t be rushed. They are more than a check-list.

Children deserve time to explore.
Time to get messy.
Time to wonder.
Time to build relationships.
Time to develop independence.
And, most importantly, time to just be little.🌼

My approach is heavily inspired by Reggio Emilia, nature-based learning, slow pedagogy and the Curiosity Approach.
Rather than filling rooms with brightly coloured plastic toys and adult-led activities, I want our environments to feel calm, beautiful and homely - filled with open-ended resources, real-life experiences and endless opportunities for curiosity.

At the heart of everything we do is The BLOSSOM Way - our own approach to early childhood that reflects exactly what I want Blossom & Bee to stand for.

I’m passionate about creating childcare where practitioners genuinely know their children, where parents feel part of our family, and where every decision starts with one question:

What is best for the child?

Blossom & Bee has been built with so much love, thought and determination, and I feel incredibly privileged to be creating the kind of childcare I would want my own children to attend.

This is more than childcare to me.

It’s a place to belong.
A place to explore.
A place to grow.
And a place for every little person to blossom in their own way.🌸🐝

Welcome to Blossom & Bee. 🤍

Question…

Did you know that NASA conducted a fascinating study on “creative genius”?

They found that 98% of children under 5 scored at “genius levels” for creativity. But as they aged, that percentage dropped dramatically.

They followed them into adulthood and found just 2% of adults maintain that same creative spark. 🥺

This is your Sunday reminder to “be more child”…

Give your imagination room to play. It’s never too late to reclaim your creative genius. 🌟

Another day, another new park!✨

I can’t help but wonder, why are all of the parks in Blackpool empty?

We go out to a park or flower gardens every day… but every park we go to is empty.

Do you think screen time plays a part in this?
Is it because children are in summer holiday clubs?
Has Blackpool fallen out of love with parks🥺?

Let me know in the comments what you think?

Why Block Play Is One of the Most Powerful Activities in Early Childhood 🧱✨

At first glance, it might just look like children stacking blocks.

But underneath that tower is problem-solving, resilience, creativity, communication, mathematics, engineering, and imagination all happening at once.

Every time a child builds, they are asking themselves:
🤔 Will this balance?
🤔 What happens if I make it taller?
🤔 How can I stop it falling over?

When it inevitably tumbles down (because it usually does!), they aren’t failing - they’re learning. They adapt, rethink, and try again.

Block play naturally develops:
🌿 Fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination
🌿 Early maths concepts like size, shape, pattern, symmetry and measurement
🌿 Language as children explain ideas and negotiate with friends
🌿 Social skills through collaboration and shared problem-solving
🌿 Creativity and imagination as simple blocks become castles, zoos, rockets or homes
🌿 Confidence and perseverance by learning that mistakes are part of success

As adults, it’s tempting to jump in and “help” build the perfect tower.

But the real learning happens when we step back.

When we allow children the time to think, test, rebuild and discover for themselves, we’re telling them:

“I trust you to figure this out.”

Those moments build far more than impressive structures.

They build capable, confident, resilient learners.

Sometimes, the most meaningful learning doesn’t come from expensive toys or planned activities.

Sometimes...

..it’s just a basket of wooden blocks and a child with a big imagination. 💛🐝

I don’t think I did too bad tbh 🤗.
Can any builders recommend unreal ways to get plaster and concrete off a floor for future reference rather than me ever having to scrub for 6 hours? Ta xo
