Every few weeks, our whole team take part in after-school professional development. During tonight’s session, Key Stage 3 and our wider therapy team focused on communication across the curriculum, with a particular focus on Grid for Schools and Grid for iPad.

This ongoing training helps us build confidence and consistency in supporting our pupils to communicate, participate and have their voices heard 💛

🤟 Sign of the Week 🤟

Our Sign of the Week is "Mental Health" to help raise awareness of World Mental Health Day on 10th October. 💚

Learning and using this sign gives us an opportunity to talk about mental health, wellbeing and the importance of looking after ourselves and others. Taking time to check in, share our feelings and seek support when needed are all important parts of maintaining good mental health.

🌟 Class of the week is Puffin Class 🌟

The children loved exploring our Life Skills room, mixing ingredients, icing cakes and biscuits in the bakery, practising making their beds, and taking turns as bakery shopkeepers. 🧁🛏️🍰

In Science, they investigated different materials and explored the concepts of hard and soft. Throughout the week, there were lots of fantastic communication opportunities, with everyone working hard to express their ideas, make choices and interact with others.

What a lovely evening reconnecting with some of our former learners as they returned to collect their certificates and share updates on their journeys since leaving Highfurlong.

We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them and feel privileged to have been part of their journey, wishing you all every success and happiness in the next chapter of your lives. 🎓💙

If you weren’t able to make it this evening, please feel free to pop in and collect your certificate at any time. If certificates haven’t been collected by half term, we will arrange to post them out.

Our Early Years and Key Stage 1 continuous provision spaces are really coming on nicely! 💙

There are now lots of opportunities for our pupils to play, communicate, explore and, most importantly, have fun! We’re continuing to develop the spaces and add new areas and resources as we all get used to using them.

What shall we include next? We’d love to hear your ideas!

A huge well done to our brilliant Early Years team for their dedication, creativity and hard work in developing these spaces. 🌟
