Find Your Military Ancestors

This Armed Forces Week, come along and find out how to discover what your military ancestors were doing when they served. This free, friendly drop in will teach you how to use Ancestry and Find My Past to research your relatives, both of which are free to use on the public access computers across Blackpool Libraries.

🌎 Read Around the World This Summer 1 June - 31 August 🌎

A reading challenge for adults and young people.

Join us in reading books set in countries all around the globe. Fiction and nonfiction both count, as do print books, audiobooks, and graphic novels/comic books.

Five levels of reading challenge—choose the one that's best for you.
• Adventurer (1 book) - Read a book set in a country you've not read about before.
• Voyager (3 books) - Read books set in each of: Africa, the Americas, Eurasia.
• Explorer (6 books) - Read books set in each of: Africa, Asia, Australia/Oceania, Europe, North America, South America.
• Polar Explorer (7 books) - Read all the Explorer books, plus a book set in Antarctica.
• Globetrotter (12 books) - Read books set in 12 different countries, with at least one book per each non-Antarctic continent.

Participants at any challenge level can receive a prize of one free book.

Pick up your Read Around the World recording sheet at any Blackpool library, and travel around the globe this summer in your imagination.

We are so proud to be Story Sharers with BookTrust and Better Start Blackpool !

“When I started in this job I was super shy" says Molly. “I can talk to a room full of people now, and I will sing at the top of my lungs."

Sandeep and Molly, from Blackpool Libraries, told us that at first leading storytimes for children aged 0–5 felt challenging. But now, they love it.

Thanks to a collaboration between Better Start Blackpool and BookTrust, the library assistants received specialist support, training and mentorship to boost their skills and confidence.

The Bounce and Rhyme sessions they lead have such a positive effect on the community, too.

“We’ve had mums approach us who are feeling isolated, or who are suffering from post-natal depression. If feels like we’ve become quite central to those families and the community here," says Sandeep.

We know that , which is why we're so proud to work with libraries to get children reading and help them to discover books they love❤️

This lively session brings Pop’n’Olly stories to life in a way that gets everyone moving, laughing, and learning.
Alongside storytime, Olly will be running colourful craft workshops to drop into throughout the day.
