After 4 long years of heartbreak, near-misses, and fierce rivalry, the Sports students have FINALLY done it!

For the first time in four years, our team raised the trophy in the annual charity match, breaking the UPS team's winning streak in an absolute thriller of a game. Every single sprint, tackle, and point counted, and the atmosphere was electric from start to finish. Massive shoutout to everyone who came down to play, cheer, and lose their voices on the sidelines!

But while the Sports team takes the bragging rights home this year, the real winners of the day are the incredible people at the Helping Hearts Foundation.

Our students have been smashing goals as part of their coursework across multiple units:

✅ Completed a 5km run as part of Unit C2: Fitness Skills – showing real determination and physical progress!

✅ Explored careers in sport across the public and private sectors, gaining insight into the wide range of opportunities available.

✅ Delivered health screening tests as part of Unit 8: Fitness Testing, developing practical skills in real-world scenarios.

✅ Investigated local providers of physical activity and sport in the context of Health and Wellbeing, connecting learning with the community.

🤝 Our second-year students also stepped up to coach and support the first years, demonstrating leadership, teamwork, and mentoring skills in action!

Congratulations to former student Rob Apter on a monumental achievement!

It’s a proud day for the department as we watch Rob head to the Championship following Bolton’s successful promotion. Having seen his dedication firsthand during his time in the LFE program—under the guidance of Sarah and Brian—it is no surprise to see him reaching these professional heights.

Rob’s journey from the classroom and the training pitch to the big stage is a fantastic example for our current academy players. It shows exactly where hard work and the right mindset can lead.

The B&FC Men’s Football Team have been crowned league champions after a sensational season. 👏

Over the course of a seven-month campaign, the team delivered an outstanding run of form, winning 13 of their 14 matches to secure the AoC North West Tier 3, Division D title in emphatic style with a game to spare. 😎

As well as success on the pitch, the players have been fantastic ambassadors for B&FC, representing the college with pride, professionalism and sportsmanship at every fixture.

Sean Danaher, B&FC Sporting Co‑Ordinator and the team’s coach, praised the squad and everyone involved behind the scenes.

“The lads have been absolutely fantastic all season,” he said.

“They’ve represented the college brilliantly and fully deserve this success. It’s been the culmination of a two year journey and we’re delighted to bring some sporting silverware back to the college after a long time without any.

“A massive thank you to everyone who has supported both the players and myself to make this happen – and a special thanks goes to tutors for releasing the players to compete and helping us balance football with their education. I’m hoping this can be a real springboard and the beginning of a sustained period of success. Planning is already underway for next season to continue this journey.”
