That money talk
"I just need to consult my partner. I'll get back to you."
Even when we offered free tuition in 2020, we didn't actually see a flock of people wanting extra tuition. Tuition is for the elite. Always has been, always will be.
Did that hit a nerve?
"£2.50 per session...that's too expensive, I just need to consult my partner. I'll get back to you."
My sales team hear all sorts. They find it funny. They know that you don't need to consult your partner when you need a new hand bag or pair of shoes.
When you want a new house with an extra bedroom and garden. You don't consult them. You just tell them straight. This is what we need, this is what I want, this is what we are getting.
So, why is this so different?
The results are not tangible. You can't hold it in your hands. You can't take it home like you do in the shops. The results are not immediate. Their exams feel like light years away.
It's a long process that takes time and a bit of energy. You have to put some WORK in too. You have to nag them to log on. You have to nag them to do work. You have to nag them to listen.
The end result is not far with me and my maths program. After 2 weeks you see your child happy. After 3 weeks your child's teacher will notice something. After 4 weeks they are bouncing around and confident.
£2.50 expensive? Even if I said it was free you would still think that was expensive too!
Why?

Sometimes, I wonder if all the mindfulness exercises we do at the beginning of the maths sessions are doing any good. I can't see them making the notes, I can't see them do the breathing exercise, I can't see them do mount Everest exercise, the 6 phase exercise, I can't see if they take it seriously or not.
I agree some of the exercises just looks ridiculous such as the qi gong moves, holding the energy in front of you in a ball - in your hands - when you can't see anything, except your hands waving around like a crazy!
But what I can see is the results throughout the year. I hear some amazing stories. And not necessarily anything to do with maths.
Some come top in other subjects, some are achieving grades they never expected, some are doing part time jobs, some are taking part in challenges, talent shows, on the BBC etc.
THIS student won an award for the Jack Petchey Foundation achievement awards. I stole his mums little video clip.
Mindfulness maths is part and parcel of The A* GCSE Maths program™. It was designed to calm the students in exams, to help them build exam revising techniques, help them with their future building visionary skills, help them feel confident, to help them get the best possible grades even if its JUST a pass mark for some.
All of this I did not make up, I do not take the credit for any of the things I teach. They have been taken from courses I did to build my own personal self-development. These are millionaires and billionaire entrepreneurs that swear by these exercises.
And yes some of it cost me thousands, some of it cost me nothing, but can you even put a price on your health and personal self-development?
All I know is, my students ooze self confidence, they are the most desirable, likeable, talented kids on this planet and they know the world is their oyster.
Moral of the story 1: Your health and personal self development is priceless.
Moral of the story 2: Personal self-development and passing maths…all in one place at The A* GCSE Maths program™.

This kid moved up sets and helped the top set kids do their homework!

Honestly, I didn't think in my 40's I would be walking around with a walking stick.👩🦯. My gran doesn't even have one!
About 8 years ago I had a baby..👶
After 2 weeks of giving birth the midwife calls me up, hysterically down the phone, "Rakiya quick, pick these antibiotics, you have MRSA!" 😯
If anyone remembers 30 years ago, when MRSA broke out in hospitals and the media coverage was like, 'Your going to die if you catch it.' (A little bit like all the hype in 2020 😉).
Well, I thought I was going to die. 😢
Before I even started the antibiotics course, my body flared up in every single joint. From my jaw right down to my little toe. Rhematoid Arthritis.🦴
Have you ever walked past a door 🚪and banged your little toe or knee? Arghh. Hold that pain, multiply it by 5, keep it there for 3 hours.
Thats the pain of rhematoid arthritis. Well at least until the steroids have kicked in after 3 hours. Steroids only take the edge off. The pain is still there.
I was bedridden for 10 weeks. 🛌. And there after I'm still stuck in bed, until I have taken a whole host of prescriptions to get me up, every morning.
Ever wondered what it feels like to have a crying new born and not be able to carry her properly? How about getting your bottom wiped, help with brushing your teeth, sucking solids through a straw?🥤
I would phone my pharmacist mate up…"Get me some stronger painkillers, these steroids are not working!"💊
My husband lost an amazing job in Merseyrail.🚄. My daughter failed to attend her alima exams and therefore failed the year.🤦♀️
The GP visited home twice a week, health visitor twice a week, mental heath everyday, social workers...it goes on.
Do you think this typed up message would be here today, if it wasn't for all these amazing people?🤩
Today, I may wobble when I stand. But trust me, there is nothing worse than knowing you have something valuable to give to the world 🌏 and knowing you can't give it.
So, just know that when you see me and wonder why does it takes me longer to get up out of a chair, or my hands are bandaged up, or you see me with a walking stick (wheelchair👩🦽 when its real bad), that I am in serious pain, but this is still a good day. 🌞
The bad days are over. We are here to serve YOU now.🧎♀️

When the kids send me their homework’s outside of sessions, I don’t send the answer. I provide a video tutorial. This is going over and beyond what any tutor is expected.
Here is an example of exactly that.
It makes it all possible with the right teaching and support!

My friends get confused when they hear about me being in bottom set. “But Raks, you were always in top set.”
No… I was not.
In year 7 we were all together, then we did a test and all my mates moved up and I was stuck in bottom set. I was absolutely miserable.
I had to do something, I had to ACTUALLY do some work. So I got my big sister to check all my homework to 100%, I worked more with my maths tutor, and I diligently, quietly worked in class.
Until they moved me to middle set.
It still wasn't good enough, so I set about doing the same as above. The following term…
They moved me to top set.
All of this was in a space of 1 year. By year 8, I was in top set with all my friends. It's no wonder they don't remember me being in bottom set, I wasn't there for that long.
And just to clarify, top set is not just for clever people. It's for those who work quietly and diligently to get results.
Moral of the story 1: What results do you want?
Moral of the story 2: Quietly and diligently
