📝Changes to Free School Meals
From September 2026 more children will be eligible for free school meals. If your family receives Universal Credit, your child will be entitled to a free meal every school day as the current £7,400 household income cap is being removed.
What do I need to do?
If your child is already receiving free school meals, there is nothing you need to do. Blackburn with Darwen Council will check your child’s eligibility ahead of their return to school in September 2026.
If your child isn’t currently receiving free school meals, but your family is in receipt of Universal Credit, then please apply via the link below:
Free school meals | Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council
Applying is quick and easy and could mean that your child will receive a free, healthy meal every school day, saving up to £495 per year for each child on school lunches.
If you need help applying, please get in touch with school via the main office.
