Our school values are, Aspiration .. Crosshill School is a special school for students aged 11 to 16 year old with moderate learning difficulties. Many of the students have additional emotional and behavioural issues. At Crosshill we pride ourselves in being special. Special in the way we make sure all our students are taught according to their own particular needs. Special in the excellent progress the students make in their learning and special in the way we support and care for them as they move from school into adulthood. Our students leave us confident, caring and qualified to meet the challenges that face them. The unique environment that we have created within a mainstream high school means our students can feel part of a bigger school whilst continuing to enjoy the security a smaller, more intimate "school within a school" and our high staff to student ratios mean that every student receives individual help and support. This "family" feel of the school is vital to our success and lies at the heart of all we do, of that we are all proud.

Some of our Primary students have recently started swimming sessions as part of their PE curriculum. Attending lessons at Darwen Leisure Centre, they have been working hard to develop their confidence and water skills, while building positive relationships with the swimming instructors. Key Stage 4 pupils have been creating vibrant artwork inspired by the book 'Giraffes Can't Dance'. As part of their creative curriculum, they explored the book's African setting and cultural influences, producing some truly wonderful pieces. What an amazing display of creativity and talent!

Nurses from the NHS came to visit our Post-16 students recently to teach them about annual health checks, including what happens during an appointment and why they are important. They discussed healthy lifestyles, nutrition, exercise and sleep, as well as routine checks such as blood pressure, height and weight.

Students also learnt that young people aged 14+ with additional needs are entitled to an annual health check. This was a great opportunity to increase their understanding of healthcare and encourage them to take an active role in looking after their health and wellbeing.

This week, our sign of the week is 'choose'.

Choosing means making a decision. We can choose to be kind, fair, and helpful to others. For example, cocoa farmers work hard to grow cocoa beans. Choosing Fairtrade products helps make sure they are paid fairly for their hard work.

Remember: every choice we make can help make the world a kinder and fairer place!

Parents of students in years 10, 11 and Post 16 are invited to attend our transition event on Tuesday 29 September from 4-5.30pm. The event will be held at main school and will be an excellent opportunity for all parents and pupils to find out more about options available to them when they finish at Post 16.

📢 PE & Outdoor Education at Crosshill School 🌳🏃

This year, all pupils will take part in one PE session and one Outdoor Education session each week, helping to build confidence, resilience, physical wellbeing and practical life skills through active learning.

To ensure pupils can take part safely and comfortably, please make sure they come to school wearing the correct kit on their designated PE and Outdoor Education days.

PE Kit:
- School PE top
- Black shorts, joggers or leggings
- Suitable trainers
- Additional layers appropriate for the weather

Outdoor Education Kit:
- Comfortable outdoor clothing suitable for the season
- Waterproof coat and, where possible, waterproof trousers
- Appropriate footwear such as wellington boots or walking shoes/boots
- Extra warm clothing during colder weather

Please refer to the timetable for your child's PE and Outdoor Education days, this information has also been sent out to parents via email.
