Cedars Primary School

Year 3 had a wonderful visit to Cedar Street Mosque, they enjoyed learning all about the Muslim place of worship. They discovered that mosques can have different names and explored what you would find inside a mosque. The children also learnt about namaz (prayer) and visited the wudhu area to see where Muslims perform ablution before praying. To finish the visit, they took part in a fun treasure hunt. We all had a fantastic time and would like to say a huge thank you to Bilaal Mosque for giving us such a warm welcome.

Treats for attendance!

2L were very lucky to have won the attendance for KS1. As their treat an ice cream van came to visit and the children enjoyed a delicious ice cream in the sun. Mmmm they tasted delicious!

Our Year 6 pupils had an amazing trip to Blackpool, where they enjoyed an exciting day on the rides. There were lots of smiles, laughter, and memorable moments as the children challenged themselves, supported one another, and celebrated an amazing end of year trip together.
The adults and children all had a fabulous time!

This term, Year 4 pupils took part in an exciting Food Technology Pizza Project.

The project combined cooking skills, creativity, teamwork, and learning about healthy food choices.

Exploring the History of Pizza
Pupils researched the history of pizza and discovered how this popular dish originated in Italy and how it had changed over time. They explored different styles of pizza and learned how ingredients and traditions varied around the world.

Designing Our Own Pizzas
Pupils designed their own pizzas and explored:
*Different toppings and flavour combinations
*How colours, textures, and ingredients worked together
*How to create an appealing and creative pizza design
*Preparing Ingredients and Toppings

Pupils developed practical food preparation skills by:
*Preparing and cutting toppings safely
*Measuring and organising ingredients
*Following recipes and adapting their ideas
*Making thoughtful choices about flavours and ingredients
*Healthy Pizza Choices

Pupils discussed how pizzas could be made healthier by choosing nutritious ingredients, including:
*A variety of vegetables
*Lean protein options
*Wholegrain bases where possible
*Balanced amounts of cheese and sauces

They learned that healthy food could also be delicious and enjoyable.

Working Together
Cooking provided a wonderful opportunity for pupils to develop teamwork skills. They practised:
*Sharing responsibilities
*Listening to each other’s ideas
*Solving problems together
*Supporting their classmates

Food Safety and Hygiene
Before cooking, pupils learned about important food safety practices. They practised:
*Washing their hands correctly
*Keeping work areas clean
*Using equipment safely
*Handling ingredients carefully
*Following good hygiene routines
*Sharing Our Creations

At the end of the project, pupils shared and celebrated their pizza creations. They reflected on what they had learned about cooking, nutrition, creativity, and working together.
It was fantastic to see Year 4 pupils develop confidence in the kitchen while creating delicious and imaginative pizzas. Well done to everyone involved!

Year 3 are having a wonderful time this half term reading an absolute classic. 'George's Marvellous Medicine' by Roald Dahl. This week he is adding some monstrous items to the mixture. I wonder how grandma will cope! We have been reading, discussing, sequencing and performing parts of the story aloud. What a fantastic book.

Poetry Event Tuesday 30th June 2026

Pupils from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 attended an exciting poetry event at Blackburn Library, where they met acclaimed poet Ian Bland. Ian shared a range of poems that he had written himself, many inspired by his own experiences, engaging pupils with his humour, storytelling and enthusiasm for poetry.

During the session, pupils learnt a poem together and worked on using expression, volume and actions to bring the words to life. They then had the exciting opportunity to perform the poem in front of pupils from 11 other schools, demonstrating excellent oracy skills, teamwork and confidence.

What can you do in a PE lesson when it is this hot? Good question. At Cedars we have lots to do! Currently we are learning about team work and communication, so today's lesson was perfect. The language the pupils used was of a vey high level. They needed to be accurate in what they were saying because they were back to back and couldn't see what the other person was doing. It was great fun and lots of good learning took place. Time for a hydration break.

Year 6 have stepped into the boardroom, ready to pitch their big ideas to Mrs Truman. On Thursday morning, each team took their place, delivering polished pitches, punchy slogans, and the results of their market research with confidence and ambition.

Every group appointed a financial manager, tasked with breaking down costs, margins, and projected profit. Now the question is: can they convince Mrs Truman to invest in their venture, or will their numbers fail to impress?

Only one team can emerge as the top contender — the one with the strongest pitch, the sharpest strategy, and the biggest profit.

The competition is on. The stakes are high. Who will come out on top?

What a lovely morning 3W and 3B had on Friday 19th June! Firstly we need to thank all the families that came to watch, great to have so much support. All the pupils tried their best, raced fairly and supported each other. We completed sprints, javelin, sack race, a throwing event and an obstacle course. Absolutely fantastic.

Year 5 visited the Blackburn library today to see a very special author - Jocelyn Stevenson. She wrote the book - The Waterubas. She shared the story and gave us some insight to what it's all about. We felt very lucky to have met an author and are left wanting to read more!
