This week, we’ve been exploring and identifying different types of leaves! We used our leaf book to spot the differences, discovering that some leaves are heart-shaped while others have wiggly edges.

We collected a variety of leaves and even discovered that the leaves with sharp, spiky edges come from a holly tree!

We’ve had another wonderful week at Forest School.

This week, we have been becoming bird detectives. We used our bird spotting books to identify and recognise different birds we might see around us. We then used our bird sensory stones to inspire us to draw the birds we had discovered, encouraging us to look closely at their colours, shapes, and features.

We have also been practising our Makaton, learning the sign for "Autumn". The children have enjoyed learning the sign and exploring different ways we can communicate with one another.

One of our favourite activities this week was making our very own magical wands. We carefully chose and collected our own sticks, thinking about which one would make the perfect wand. We then used our fine motor skills to cut string and sellotape before carefully wrapping the string around our sticks to create our magical creations.

It has been a fantastic week of exploring the outdoors, developing our independence, strengthening our fine motor skills, and letting our imaginations run wild!

📚🌿 Learning Through Our Favourite Stories! 🌿📚
Over the past two weeks, our Toddler Room has been busy exploring some of our favourite stories, including Stick Man, The Gruffalo and We’re Going on a Bear Hunt! 🐻🌳

We’ve been using these much-loved stories to inspire lots of exciting learning through play, exploration and investigation.

📖 Literacy: We’ve enjoyed listening to our stories, joining in with familiar phrases, developing new vocabulary, talking about the characters and retelling parts of the stories through our own play.

🔢 Maths: The stories have provided lots of opportunities for counting, matching, sorting, comparing sizes and quantities, and exploring mathematical language.

🌿 Outdoor Learning: We’ve taken our story adventures outdoors, exploring the natural environment, searching for sticks, investigating different textures and using our imaginations to recreate parts of our favourite stories.

🔍 Investigation: From exploring the woodland world of the Gruffalo to going on our very own bear hunt, we’ve been busy making observations, asking questions and discovering the world around us.

🌳🧸 Our children have loved bringing these stories to life through imaginative play, creativity and hands-on experiences. It has been wonderful to watch their confidence, curiosity, communication and love of learning grow! ❤️

This week, the preschool children have been exploring self portraits using photographs of themselves as inspiration. We looked closely at our facial features, talking about our eyes, hair and all of the little details that make us unique.

We also had some lovely discussions about how we are all different, celebrating our individual features, similarities and differences. We enjoyed creating our self-portraits and expressing what makes us wonderfully unique!

Try at home: look in the mirror together and talk about your child's facial features, you could then have a go at drawing a family self portrait using different creative materials. We'd love to see your wonderful art work!

This week at Forest School has been filled with creativity, exploration and lots of opportunities to connect with nature! 🌿

We’ve been busy creating our very own magical potions using fresh flowers, colourful petals and natural ingredients. We’ve also been getting our hands dirty planting potatoes and learning all about where our food comes from and how it grows. We then got creative by making our own weaving frames, to collect leaves, grass and twigs to use in our natural creations.

It’s been another fantastic week at Forest School!

What an amazing first week we have had at Forest School! 🌿

We have spent our sessions getting to know our site and discovering what kinds of birds, insects and animals might call it home. We’ve talked about how we can care for our woodland friends and help to keep them safe.

We’ve also been practising our Forest School song and rules, which we start every session with these have helped us understand how to stay safe and look after one another. We’ve had so much fun exploring our surroundings, making our very own flower potions and learning how to sign ‘cold’ as we talked about the beginning of Autumn.

We’ve even spotted some of the leaves starting to change colour!

It’s been a fantastic first week, and we can’t wait to see what adventures next week brings!

Our First Forest School Session! 🌿
What a wonderful time we had during our very first Forest School session! We started by learning our new Forest School rules and song, helping us to understand how to stay safe and care for our outdoor environment.

We then became wildlife explorers, investigating what animals might live on our site. Armed with binoculars, magnifying glasses and minibeast and bird-spotting books, we enjoyed searching for signs of wildlife and making exciting discoveries along the way.

To finish our session, we gathered together to reflect on what we had seen, learned and enjoyed. We were very grateful for our brand-new den, which provided the perfect shelter from the rain!

We can't wait to see what adventures our next Forest School session brings!
