Our amazing cross country team! 🏃

We are bursting with pride to share that our school came first overall tonight at the cross country event.

Our boys’ A team took 1st place and our girls’ A team came 2nd; an outstanding result with around 300 children competing in total!

Also a special shout out to Harper, who placed 1st overall!

Every single one of our runners demonstrated determination, resilience and perseverance all the way through a tricky running course. They kept going, never gave up, and we are so incredibly proud of every single one of them! Well done, team! 🏃‍♀️

Our A team enjoyed an excellent run in the Kids Cup, reaching the quarter-finals unbeaten and without conceding a single goal.

Unfortunately, despite a determined performance, the team were narrowly eliminated following a penalty shootout. Our boys should be extremely proud of their achievement and the commitment they demonstrated, despite playing with each other for the first time. Well done, boys! We are very proud of you all ⚽️

Our LKS2 group enjoyed getting creative today, making beautiful lanterns using pressed flowers from our school garden. The children showed great imagination and creativity as they carefully arranged their flowers to create their own unique designs.
Afterwards, they continued their creativity through a range of child-led games and activities, making great use of the resources available to them and working together through play.
We finished the session with a well-deserved hot chocolate and some time to reflect on the discoveries and experiences from our session.

Our final Forest School session with Eagles Class focused on identifying five plants found in our woodland environment: holly, ivy, bramble, fern and nettle.
We explored the different features of each plant, discovered where they thrive and talked about their various uses. The children then enjoyed a woodland scavenger hunt, putting their knowledge into practice as they searched for and identified the five plants in different areas.
There was also plenty of time for socialising and enjoying free play, before we finished the session with a well-deserved hot chocolate! It was fantastic to see the children continuing to independently name and identify the five focus plants during their play. Their enthusiasm, curiosity and growing knowledge have been wonderful to see throughout our Forest School sessions.

Our LKS2 group worked brilliantly together to create a habitat stack! The children helped to construct a tall tripod using branches before gathering natural materials from the forest floor to fill the centre. These towers of sticks provide a safe, sheltered habitat for insects and invertebrates, giving them a place to hide and hibernate.
There was plenty of time for child-led exploration too! Working in pairs and small groups, the children built shelters, enjoyed role play in the mud kitchen, climbed trees and waded in the stream. It was fantastic to see them developing their social, communication and language skills as they worked together, shared ideas and explored the woodland.

It’s a new school year, and Eagles Class enjoyed their first Forest School session this week!
The children have been learning to identify Hawthorn, Oak and Sycamore trees by carefully examining their bark, leaves, buds, berries and seeds. This hands-on learning links to our Science topics, ‘Plants including trees’ and ‘Living things and their habitats’. The children looked closely at the different shapes and features of leaves, buds, berries, seeds and bark samples to help them correctly identify the tree species growing in our woodland. What a fantastic way to begin the new school year — exploring, observing and learning together in our fabulous woodland!

Our final Wrens Forest School session of the year ended with the children creating beautiful personalised pendants to take home as a special keepsake of their time at Forest School at St. Leonards.
I was so impressed by the creativity and variety of their designs, with each child adding their own unique style and personality to their pendant.
Well done, Wrens! We hope you treasure these wonderful memories.

A huge well done to all our amazing children who took part in the rounders event last week! They played brilliantly, showed great determination, and gave it their absolute best despite the 30°C heat. 🏏

We also want to say a massive thank you to the parents and siblings who joined in and supported our team; we couldn’t have done it without you!
