🟡 Do you know why some UK road signs have a yellow background? 🤔

Most speed limit signs in the UK have a white background, so when you spot one with a yellow backing board, it's there for a reason.

The yellow background isn't a different speed limit or a special type of restriction. Instead, it's used to make the sign stand out where it might otherwise be easy to miss.

You'll often see yellow-backed signs:
🚗 On roads where drivers need extra warning of a speed limit change.
🌳 Where trees, hedges or the surroundings make a sign less noticeable.
⚠️ At locations with a history of drivers missing the sign or where extra visibility improves safety.

The speed limit shown on the sign is exactly the same—the yellow backing simply helps draw your attention to it.
