At a beautiful location today, the Willow Globe in Powys! Planted twenty years ago in 2006, with its design mirroring the historic London Globe.

We’re here for the culmination of a fantastic weeks course in Oswestry. And now very much looking forward to watching everyone perform in a condensed version of A Midsummer Nights Dream, aptly taking part in the woods. It’s been great fun putting together, & a big thank you for everyone’s hard work, energy & enthusiasm all this week!

NODA class of 2026! An incredible week, some incredible achievements by the students, opportunities for some great collaboration ideas, and as always a joy to be part of it.

More photos of the week will be coming soon I’m sure once I’m unpacked in suitcase & mind!

A huge thank you to all those behind the scenes, who work tirelessly all year round for this event. And a big thank you to Jacquie Stedman who retired her post this year & will be hugely missed.

Until next time NODA, thank you all!

In 2014, we had the pleasure of working with Ross Andrews & Laurence Aldridge. And this weekend we had the honour of being there for Laurence’s wedding day!

The link goes beyond being the Easter Passion plays at Gloucester & Worcester cathedrals. Laurence was Jesus, I helped make sure he could be dramatically crucified, Danielle was a devil trying to tempt him to the dark side, and Ross was Herod, ordering said crucifixion. Thankfully he’s obviously not held a grudge!

Many lifelong friendships made in that show and it was a fantastic day celebrating Laurence & Nikita Aldridge’s wedding day.

We have a series of one day workshops coming up throughout the next 12 months! All Gloucestershire based, and community and industry driven. The first of which is on Monday 31st August between 10am - 5pm at the Victory Club in Cheltenham.

“When the distance closes, every movement matters”

This intensive Close Quarters Stage Combat Workshop explores the art of believable, safe, and dynamic combat at a confined distance. From tense confrontations to explosive bursts of action, you’ll learn how to perform compelling fight choreography that feels authentic while prioritising performer safety.

Designed for actors, performers, and theatre-makers, this practical workshop focuses on:

Close-range strikes, blocks, and evasions.
Short distance weapon conflict.
Organic close range choreography style.
Working safely on small stages and in close up spaces.

Through guided exercises and choreographed sequences, participants will develop confidence, precision, and the skills to tell powerful stories through physical performance.

Whether you’re preparing for the stage or screen, building your movement vocabulary, or looking to keep building your skills, this workshop offers a supportive, inclusive, energetic environment to train safely and creatively.

This is a mixed ability workshop for 18+ students only. Wear comfortable clothing suitable for movement and be ready to work collaboratively. New to stage combat? We are highly experienced in guiding new students through our workshops (and veterans too!), so please get in touch if you have any questions.

£65 per person. Limited bursary places available for eligible students.

Our workshops are an inclusive space with a commitment to student well being, with our work driven by communication and respect for consent.

Contact us at [email protected] or through Action Emporium social media messaging for any questions or to book your place.

A great week working in the new Everyman Education Centre, with a fab group of young people who gave incredible performances today at the end of a hard working week. They should all be very proud of themselves.

The week included taking them on a backstage tour of the Everyman main stage theatre, and no matter how many times I’ve been there, I’m always struck by how beautiful a theatre it is.

Repost: NODA Summer School Scrapbook ⚔️ Ready to learn how to fight... safely? 🎭

Before you panic... no actual injuries allowed! 😄

Stage combat is one of the most exciting skills an actor or director can add to their toolkit. A well-choreographed fight can transform a production, create unforgettable moments on stage, and bring real drama and tension to a scene.

On our Introduction to Stage Combat course at NODA Theatre Summer School 2026, you’ll learn how to make every punch, slap, sword fight and dramatic confrontation look completely convincing... while keeping everyone safe.

Throughout the week you’ll:

⚔️ Learn the fundamentals of safe stage combat
🎭 Develop the physical skills needed to perform fight choreography
👊 Build fight sequences from individual moves
📖 Explore how combat helps tell the story of a production
🎬 Experience working with a fight director
✨ Take a scripted scene and bring it to life through action

Whether you’re an actor looking to develop a new performance skill or a director wanting to stage conflict with confidence, this practical, energetic course will give you the foundations to create exciting and believable stage combat.

No previous experience needed—just a willingness to throw yourself into something new! (Figuratively, of course. 😉)

A really great weekend with some incredible students, and fab to be in the room with colleagues & old friends (chosen family).

It’s been a long time since we all just got together to have a play, work on skills and learn from each other just as much we teach. Looking forward to more of the same in the future. Big thanks to Kaitlin Howard, Kev McCurdy, Amy Bolger-Floyd & Brazen Steel for being amazing. And really great to see some familiar student faces in the room too!

Repost: Kev McCurdy An amazing start to the The APC weekend workshop this morning with Tom Jordan kicking us off with his Machete workshop.
I’ve known Tom for nearly 25 years...from when i taught him at The Oxford School of Drama...through all of the workshops and fight exams to becoming a fight teacher with us and I’m a very proud Fight Dad for him and for all of the people that I’ve taught over the years and who are now Fight Instructors.
Keep smashing it everyone!!
