🌟 Good Luck, Year 6! 🌟
What an incredible year it has been! Our Year 6 leavers have been an amazing class and have achieved outstanding results through their hard work, determination and positive attitudes. They have been kind, caring, supportive of one another and an absolute pleasure to teach.

I would also like to say a huge thank you for all of the thoughtful cards and generous end-of-year gifts. Your kindness is greatly appreciated.

We hope that everyone enjoyed our special Leavers' Performances. It was a wonderful celebration of your time at Hunwick Primary School, showcasing brilliant acting, fantastic singing, beautiful musical interludes, thoughtful poetry and, most importantly, the opportunity to look back on the many happy memories made along the way.

As you leave Hunwick Primary School and begin an exciting new chapter, we wish each and every one of you the very best of luck at your new secondary schools. Continue to work hard, believe in yourselves, embrace every opportunity and always remember the friendships, experiences and achievements that have made your time at Hunwick so special.

We are incredibly proud of you all and cannot wait to see what the future holds.

⭐ Once a Hunwick pupil, always a Hunwick pupil. Good luck, Year 6! ⭐💙💛

We would like to thank all our Chestnut Class families and carers for all their support, care, generosity throughout the whole year. We had a great final week with Chestnut Class Graduation Assembly, where the children performed songs and dances, the children enjoyed soft play in the hall, decorating pirate cakes and dressing up as a pirate or mermaid and ended our end of week with a party. Thank you again we hope that all our families have the best summer.

This term Chestnut Class have learnt about Sun Safety and talked about ways to keep cool in our garden by making dens, fans, staying in the shade and drinking more water to keep hydrated. The children enjoyed watching our wild flower garden grow from seed to flowers, and they created detailed observational drawings. Furthermore, the children had fun at sports day - showing super running, jumping, skipping and balancing skills as they carried out different races. Continuing to show their fantastic PE skill, the children have also enjoyed supporting England in the FIFA World Cup and have set up their own pitch in the EYFS garden. The children loved chanting "Come on England!" 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Sail the Seas!! 🏴‍☠️
Chestnut Class have had an amazing final half term learning about pirates! The children have made pirate fruit punch by squeezing citrus fruit, used the Beebots to navigate around the treasure island, followed treasure trails with loose parts, washed sandy shells, made treasure chests, made colourful parrots and textured fish, and so much more The children have thoroughly enjoyed our termly Literacy Tree Book 'The Night Pirates', where Reception children have worked hard to write about the story and this has given them motivation to write their own simple story about them as a pirate. Arghh me hearties!🏴‍☠️🦜

Marching Through History: Sycamore’s Roman Adventure at Binchester

Sycamore Class had a brilliant time at Binchester Roman Fort last week, bringing our History unit on Roman Britain vividly to life. Pupils explored how the Romans shaped our local area, gaining first‑hand insight into archaeology, daily life, and the legacy beneath our feet.

We were privileged to be joined by John, an archaeologist from The Auckland Project, who inspired us with stories from digs he's undertaken and he bravely faced a lively Q&A. Mark and Leigh guided us expertly around the site, helping pupils grasp the vast timeline between Roman Britain and today. The sensory station was… memorable; fermented fish paste may not be the next school‑dinner favourite.

Pupils ventured into the commander’s house, discovering how stones have been reused across centuries, before exploring the bath house and peering as close as permitted to the hypocaust. A carousel of hands‑on activities followed: washing pieces of 1,900‑year‑old “Roman rubbish,” creating mosaic patterns, identifying bath‑house artefacts, weighing and measuring finds and even attempting Roman dress.

After lunch for Hunwick’s legion, we visited the Town Bath House—an extraordinary discovery, with only a quarter uncovered so far. Who knows which of our pupils might join future digs? The day ended with Roman armour, weaponry and a full testudo formation as we advanced on the “barbarians.”

We’re grateful to Binchester Roman Fort for hosting us and to John from The Auckland Project for sharing his expertise.
