10 TIPS TO QUIT SMOKING

1. Create a plan - choose a date to stop smoking and what you are going to use to aid you

2. Remember why you decided to quit - make a list of all the reasons why you want to stop smoking to remind you when you feel like giving up

3. Use the money you save on ci******es to treat your self!

4. Quit with a friend

5. Try and identify your triggers - maybe you like a cigarette after a meal? Try washing the dishes instead

6. Keep busy to resist the urge to smoke - cravings usually last 5-10 minutes keep your self busy in this time

7. Use physical activity to help reduce stress

8. Go to your loved ones for support

9. Think positive!

The affects of stopping smoking start within just 20 minutes!!

After 20 minutes- your blood pressure and heart rate return to normal

After 8 hours- carbom monoxide levels in your blood will of now halved and oxygen levels will return to normal.

After 24 hours- all carbon monoxide will have now left your body

After 48 hours- your taste and sense of smell should improve

After 72 hours- breathing becomes easier and energy levels should start to increase

Around 900 people in Counth Durham die each year from smoking related causes and the smoking rate in mothers during pregnancy is 14%. This is significantly higher compared to the rest of England.
