As Part of our PSHCE this week Year 3 and Year 4 have been looking at what makes us unique. We looked at our finger prints under a microscope and then printed them in our floor book. The children then thought about all the different factors that influence what makes them unique such as family, choices and interests.

Frosterley Primary School

Today the children in EYFS explored a world map, investigating what the blue and green areas represented. We looked at the UK and talked about the seas and oceans the children may have paddled in during their holidays.

The children then sorted pictures of warm and icy seas, deciding which fish and sea mammals belonged in each habitat. To finish, they created their own underwater project and spent ages pretending to swim beneath the sea, surrounded by colourful fish and marine life. A wonderful day of discovery, discussion, and imaginative play! 🌍🐠🌊

🌿 Our First Forest School Adventure 🌿
Nursery and Reception had an amazing first Forest School session with Josie and Key Stage 1.
The children started by learning how to stay safe in our woodland area before heading off to explore.
They had so much fun:
✨ Building cosy homes for woodland animals
✨ Creating their own dens
✨ Getting messy in the mud kitchen
✨ Searching for bugs and mini beasts
It was wonderful to see their confidence, creativity, and teamwork shine through as they embraced the outdoors.
We can’t wait for the next Forest School session! 🌳💚

Yesterday, some of the children in Class 1 had the best time outdoors! 🌞 They played with water 💧, made little waterfalls 🌊, painted with water 🎨, and even pretended to cook pancakes 🥞. Such joyful, messy fun and lots of learning along the way! 🌈

🌊📚 Diving into Learning! 🐠🐳

Today, Class 1 explored a wonderful range of ocean animals using picture cards, sharing what they already know and describing what they could see. From colourful fish to mysterious sea creatures, it sparked lots of curiosity and great discussions! 🐙🐢

We encouraged the children to ask questions and think like little researchers:
💭 Do you have a favourite marine animal?
💭 Which animals would you like to find out more about?
💭 What interesting facts can we discover?

Using a computer/tablet, we explored fascinating facts about some of the children’s chosen animals and shared our discoveries with the group. 🖥️✨

It was fantastic to see such enthusiasm, curiosity, and teamwork as the children learned more about life beneath the waves! 🌊💙

Class 1 had a fantastic Forest School session this afternoon! The weather was kind to us (despite the thunderstorm forecast), and the children made the most of every minute.
They loved creating leaf‑bashing art with hammers, building dens, and using tools to make their own stick creations. And of course, the chocolate bananas cooked over the fire were a huge hit. What a brilliant afternoon of creativity, teamwork and outdoor fun.

The children had a brilliant afternoon at Forest school.
We kicked things off with a lively game of cops and robbers before getting stuck into some gardening. The beds were full of weeds, so everyone worked hard clearing them ready for new planting.

We checked on the tomatoes, strawberries, green beans and lettuce that we planted before the holidays and were so excited to spot our first tomatoes and strawberries growing.

We also made bird feeders using toilet rolls, lard and seeds. The lard wasn’t very popular at first, but once it was covered in seeds it was much more fun to handle. We hope the birds enjoy their treats.

🌿 KS1 Science – Exploring Plants in Our Local Area! 🌿
As part of our Plant Survival topic, the children took their learning outdoors to observe plants in our local environment.
We started by thinking about the big question:
What season is it now?
What plants would we expect to see at this time of year?
The children shared their ideas using what they had learnt in class and from our video, as well as their own experiences.
Armed with tablets and a plant identification poster, the children explored the school grounds, carefully observing and recording the plants they discovered. They showed fantastic curiosity and teamwork as they tried to identify different plants around them.
Back in the classroom, we shared their photographs and discussed what we noticed about the plants growing at this time of year. 🌼 The children made thoughtful observations about changes, growth and similarities between plants.
Well done to our brilliant young scientists for their excellent observing and recording skills!
You could continue the learning at home by asking your child what plants they can spot on your next walk. 🌳🌸
