Hi - I'm Sarah, the Baby Signing teacher for Harborne, Quinton & Bearwood. I attended TinyTalk classes in Bearwood with my son when he was 7 weeks old and we continued for more than 2 years! The classes are so much more than learning to sign with your baby: they are amazing social opportunities for both parent and child! My son learnt so much from watching the older babies signing in class, and on

"It gets easier!"

Honestly, we have fab conversations in all my classes, but I wanted to share the one we had in our toddler class this morning.

One of the toddlers (2yo) climbed into her own pushchair at the end of class for the first time. Everyone was very excited for her, and she was rightly very pleased with herself.

It reminded me that my son had started climbing into his own car seat at around 3, and how it had started to make so many things much easier!

We all agreed that, while of course things are always changing, and some things will always be a little tricky, *things do get easier*.
It can be so exhausting in the newborn stage, and throughout the first year, and hearing "ooh just wait until the next stage" from people is so unhelpful! We all wished we could let the new parents know that it *does* get easier!

So, consider the announcement made, and I hope it brings at least some people comfort.

Follow along to hear about booking your place for the Autumn Term, coming soon 🥳

We've had such a fab week at TinyTalk - looking at colours and the weather with the toddlers, and animals in the garden with the babies.

This week is recap week, which means we'll be exploring the themes from our last two classes again with different songs, rhymes and activities.

There's still time to join, and it's the perfect week to start!

What animals would you like to know the signs for? Add an animal emoji in the comments and I'll add them into our classes this week 👇

During social time in one of our classes last week, one mum shared that her workplace has been treating her unfairly since she went on maternity leave. They suggested that now she is less dedicated to the company she will not see her career progress in the way it was heading before 😮🫣

Now, we are in 2026, and it is my understanding that there are laws to protect women from this shocking unfairness.

Luckily, in the same class was another mother who knows a lot more about this sort of thing, and suggested getting in touch with the organisation Pregnant Then Screwed.

I'm so glad these two mothers were in the same class, and able to share so generously with each other!

If there is any golden advice you wish you had known as a new parent, please share it below 👇

And remember, you are welcome at TinyTalk classes. Signing and communication are a huge part of what we do, but equally if not more important is the focus on building community and strong support networks.

🥹 A little bit of exciting news...

I'm nominated for a Class Business Award!

Next week, we'll find out whether TinyTalk Harborne, Quinton & Bearwood has made it through to the finalist stage 🤞

When I sat down to complete the application, it made me reflect on how much has happened over the last couple of years.

I first came to TinyTalk as a parent myself, bringing my own baby along when he was just 7 weeks old.

Fast forward to today, and I've now supported well over 100 local families through Baby Signing and Toddler Talking classes, grown from 3 classes a week to 6, and even been asked by the local council to deliver funded classes for families in our community.

But what I'm most proud of isn't the numbers.

It's the messages from parents saying things like:

💜 "TinyTalk remains our very favourite class."

💜 "Sarah is enthusiastic, welcoming and very knowledgeable in BSL."

💜 "Sarah has built a lovely little community of parents and babies."

Because while I spend a lot of time learning about early communication, child development and British Sign Language, my real goal is much simpler:

To help parents feel confident communicating with their babies, and to create a place where they feel welcomed, supported and understood.

The award would be lovely.

But honestly, seeing babies sign for the first time, watching toddlers find their voice, and hearing that TinyTalk has become "the talk of Bearwood" are already pretty amazing rewards 💜

Thank you to every family who has trusted me to be part of your journey.

👇 Wish us luck for next week! And if you've ever been to TinyTalk, I'd love to hear your favourite class memory in the comments.

📮 Special delivery! 📮

Before our Toddler Talking class this week, I set up a little postbox activity (thanks to TinyTalk - Ringwood, Wimborne & Ferndown for the idea).

Each toddler had a card with their name on it, and the challenge was to find their name and post it into the letterbox.

The results were... varied 😂

Some toddlers immediately found their own name and proudly posted it.

Some toddlers decided that posting EVERYBODY'S names was a much better game.

Some spent a long time examining all the names before deciding they had absolutely no interest in posting any of them.

But that's exactly why activities like this are so valuable.

Long before children learn to read, they start to recognise that print has meaning. Seeing their own name regularly helps build familiarity, attention and early literacy skills in a fun, pressure-free way.

At TinyTalk Toddler Talking, we weave these little learning opportunities into songs, games, stories and play, so children are developing communication, listening and early language skills without it ever feeling like "work".

Because at this age, learning should be fun 💜

And if your toddler would love to join us, there's no need to wait for a new term! Families can join at any point and only pay for the remaining classes.

📱 WhatsApp me for more information, or tell me below: if your toddler had been at the postbox, would they have posted their own name... or everyone else's? 😂
