Morning walk, I've not done this before and I'm really not sure why. It's quiet it's peaceful and I've come back motivated to start my day.

It definitely fills my cup.

Do you know what fills you up and what drains you?
Do you know how best to support your daughter in managing her energy levels?

I'm bringing a mother's online space to explore how we can best teach the next generation about their energy and what to put it into.

If you are interested and want next workshop details send me a message

Part 5 and final part to what lessons you can learn from Toy Story 5.

For me this wasn't what I was expecting to pick up from this film but it's a good lesson.
We need tech, yes it is all around us and we've become so reliant on it. Encarta Encyclopedia would not cut the mustard now. However it is increasingly getting a bad rep, with children getting addicted to it.
I remember as a teacher, phones were such a distraction and pain in lessons. However we need to embrace the fact, it's got legs and it is going to be part of the life going forward.
The more important lesson is how we use it, when we use it and when we can choose to let it go.
What do you think? If you are a parent what are your tech battles? When are you willing to allow use of it when can you encourage your child to let go?

Part 4 of lessons you can learn from Toy Story 5

Crisis hits your child and it can feel to them that it is only them. It's really isolating and they do not have vocabulary to even share with you, as their parent what is going on.

Using objects, like a little figurines, a teddy to play out a situation can be helpful. Bonnie uses her toys to hide behind her shyness. Cards with emotions can also be an easy way to communicate what is going on for them. It allows them to make sense of how they are feeling.

Bonnie's toys could see what was going on and in the end Bonnie finds out it wasn't just her who was struggling too.

Part 3 of what you can learn from Toy Story 5

Again without spoiling the detail in the film, there is a reference to an influence to tech in this story.
What children learn is their creativity, the ability to create stories will beat any hit from using a device. It encourages a child to bring out their playful joyful side that I feel most children and parents want.

If as a parent you feel you are fighting a losing battle with devices, this is an important lesson in how their brain and imagination will always win. It's something that can't be measured or formalised but it's part of them.

Part two of what lessons can be learnt from Toy Story 5

How many times have you seen your child desperately trying to behave a certain way to be accepted by others. You want to desperately say to them they are not your people. You don't need to change to find true friends. A true friendship is built on being yourself and being accepted that way. They are the same too.

Not a spoiler but Bonnie definitely learnt this

Welcome to series where I share what your child can learn from Toy Story 5.

As promised no spoilers, there's an underlying theme something from earlier films which finally plays out in this film, Jessie's connection to her first child, Emily.

The learning is that our brains make sense of a situation from our own perspective, our own feelings. Feelings are not fact and when we zoom at and see the situation from another perspective it's actually very different. That is not to invalidate our experience but to be ok with it, now we have all the information and consider all perspectives.

In coaching, this is the "We Explore" step, it allows the child the situation from all perspectives and then we can move forward in a more informed way.

You are stuck in traffic, you are running late and you are worried.
Try using that example to fill in what is in and out of your circle of control with your child.

I often find in coaching when I give a relatable example (they've definitely seen you worry about being late and getting stuck in traffic) they firstly want to help me but secondly they get perspective, they can see how this might help me feel more at ease.

Anyone else use music to help them express their emotions?

It is definitely a good tool for children, listening and/or singing the lyrics and how the music makes you feel can be useful way to get in touch with your body.

This song, The Worry by the Wombats is a nod to low mental health of the drummer during the pandemic.
His words are shown here and it really encapsulates what coaching does to a child's worries. It's simple make friends with your worry but helping a child see it, make sense of it is what coaching can do.
