๐ญ CORE Students Meet The King and Sir Idris Elba in London ๐โจ
Students from City Academy, Arena Academy, Rockwood Academy and Jewellery Quarter Academy have taken part in a theatre workshop with the National Youth Music Theatre (NYMT) in London this week where they also met with King Charles III and actor Sir Idris Elba. ๐๐ฌ
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the NYMT, the King met with students taking part in the workshop, which was designed to give young people opportunities and experiences in musical theatre. ๐ญ The King was joined by Sir Idris Elba who used a grant from The Princeโs Trust (now The Kingโs Trust) to attend NYMT aged 18. ๐
The workshop this week was the final of four access workshops for the CORE students. The sessions have been led by NYMT creative practitioners and funded by the Garek Trust. This generous financial support has supported NYMTโs aspiration to make inclusion and access the focal point of its 50th year celebrations. โจ NYMT designed the workshops to develop the confidence, communication and performing skills of young people, including in improvisation. ๐ค๐ฌ
CORE Education Trust places equity, inclusion and social justice at the centre of its mission, with its schools relentlessly focused on the removal of barriers to learning, not only to raise educational outcomes, but to disrupt cycles of disadvantage and ensure that every child, regardless of background, has access to opportunity and the chance to succeed. ๐๐

Welcome Back to the Summer Term!
The summer term is always a busy time of the academic year, we have a focus on our Year 11 students and the preparations for the exams, we will be finalising Year 9 choices ahead of them starting their key stage 4 studies and we will be welcoming our new students over the Induction days in July.
At Jewellery Quarter Academy we will continue our journey of improvement and ensuring that we can provide the best for all our students through the delivery of The JQA Way. This is not just about academia but also about personal growth and development, we want to make sure that our students are able to follow their own pathways and challenge the world around them.
Over the course of the term, we will hold progress evenings for Year 7 and Year 10 to discuss their academic progress with parents/carers, we will support Year 10 with work experience and we will enjoy our Sports Day as well as the final CORE Explore Day of the year.
I look forward to sharing updates on progress this term with you all.

๐ April is IBS Awareness Month
Did you know that up to one third of the UK population experiences symptoms of IBS? It is one of the most common digestive conditions there is, yet it remains one of the least talked about.
As a nation, we are not always comfortable talking about our guts. People are suffering in silence and alone, and something needs to change.
At Jewellery Quarter Academy, we want everyone in our community, students, families, and staff, to know that their health matters and that there is no shame in seeking support. This April, together with Guts UK Charity, we are encouraging open conversations and urging anyone living with symptoms to reach out to their GP.
It is time to talk. ๐

๐ Thursday 2nd April is World Autism Awareness Day
This year's theme, "Autism and Humanity โ Every Life Has Value", is a message that sits at the heart of everything we do at Jewellery Quarter Academy.
Every student who walks through our doors brings their own strengths, their own way of thinking, and their own story. Inclusion means building environments that are flexible, accessible, and respectful of different ways of thinking and communicating. At JQA, that is not just an aspiration. It is our everyday commitment.
This April, we celebrate the autistic members of our school community and reaffirm that every life has value, and every learner has a place here. ๐

๐ April is Stress Awareness Month
April is a reminder to check in with ourselves and the people around us. At Jewellery Quarter Academy, we know that stress can show up in all kinds of ways, for students, families, and staff alike.
It might be a quieter morning than usual. A bag packed in a hurry. A lesson where concentration just won't come. Stress doesn't always announce itself, but it's always worth noticing.
At JQA, we encourage the small habits that help: taking a moment to breathe, moving your body, reaching out to someone you trust, or simply saying how you're feeling rather than keeping it to yourself.
None of it needs to be perfect. It just needs to help.
Small actions can steady a whole day. ๐
