St Albans Community Association

St Albans Community Association St Albans is a medium-sized charity, providing a wide range of support services to the local community.

The charity was established in 1983, with the commitment of a number of people, including Pat Ryan and Beryl Chandler. Pat remained on the Board until 2009 and although Pat is not directly involved in St Albans, she was still on hand for the support and advice we needed from time to time until she sadly passed away in January 2012. The organisation is funded by several means, including the local

authority, individual grant funders, donations and charges for services. St Albans prides itself on supporting members of the local to participate in a wide range of activities to improve their lives.

One very close to our heart at St Albans 💛

Today we join people around the world in marking the United Nations’ International Day of Charity, a day created to highlight the vital role charities, non‑profits and everyday acts of kindness play in easing human suffering and strengthening communities.

This date was chosen to honour Mother Teresa, who passed away on 5 September and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her humanitarian work supporting people facing poverty and distress.

Charity isn’t just about giving — it’s about solidarity, compassion and community action.

From supporting people in crisis to improving access to healthcare, education and safe housing, charitable work helps build more resilient, inclusive societies.

Here at St Albans, we see every day how kindness changes lives.

Whether it’s volunteers offering their time, families supporting one another, or our community coming together to uplift those who need it most — charity is woven into everything we do.

Here at St Albans Community Centre, we’re proud to play our part through our sessions, running twice weekly and open to anyone who needs a little support.

Clients can choose exactly what they need — fresh fruit & veg, larder staples, and even pet food for their furry companions 🐾💚🙏

⚓ 𝗠𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝘆 𝗗𝗮𝘆 – 𝟯 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

On Thursday 3 September, communities across the UK will mark Merchant Navy Day — a patriotic day of remembrance dedicated to honouring the courage, sacrifice and service of our merchant seafarers, past and present.

The day is symbolised by the proud flying of the Red Ensign, known as the Red Duster, which has been carried by British merchant ships for generations.

Many places will hold services, moments of reflection and wreath‑laying ceremonies to remember those who kept our nation supplied in times of peace and conflict.

❤️ Today, we honour their bravery, their resilience, and their vital role in our island’s story.
