CALLING ALL TEACHERS.
Have you checked these 5 things that you can do over the summer holidays to make your September easier?
✨️ Refresh classroom visuals - seems obvious but its a good idea to check your visual aids for toilet, pens etc and see if any need adding. Get a now, next board and visual taskboard to start the year on the right foot.
✨️ Plan consistent routines - children thrive on consistency so think about your daily and weekly routine. Try to be smart about it, factor in any children with additional needs or medications that you already know about who need things to happen at certain times and build from there.
✨️ Key vocabulary - repetition is how children learn language so think of 3 different ways you can repeat the key vocabulary during the first term. It could be visuals on a board, a game and during lessons to help embed those words.
✨️ Prepare simple activities - communication friendly activities in the first term can really help children build confidence that will lead them to better participation across the rest of the year. Games like "I am looking for a child wearing...", "I went to the shops and bought an A..." are great ones that need no props!
✨️ Give staff practical strategies - this is where we come in! As experienced SLTs who have worked in schools for 10 years, we have loads of tips and tricks for whole class engagement and 1:1 intervention.
You can get all these tips and more in our Speech and Language Scheme. There is a Primary kit, Resource Base kit and an Early Years kit with focused activities, a road map, trackers and intervention for each stage.
