Even though our Open Day has now taken place, we’d be delighted to arrange a personal one-to-one tour so you can see life at the school in action.
West House School is an independent preparatory school for boys aged 4 to 11, focused on developing confident, well-rounded pupils through strong values and a supportive learning environment.
We are also home to West House Nursery, a co-educational setting for children from 6 months, providing a nurturing start to their learning journey.
For over 125 years, we’ve combined high academic standards with a warm, family atmosphere where children are encouraged to grow, achieve, and thrive.
📆 We have limited places available for September 2026.
📞 Please call 0121 440 4097 to book a one-to-one tour.

We’re looking forward to welcoming families tomorrow for our Open Morning at West House School.
Our classrooms, corridors and playground will be full of the energy, curiosity and enthusiasm that define daily life here - shaped by ‘The West House Way’, which was recently recognised by ISI as a significant strength of the school.
It’s a chance to see the school as it really is: pupils learning, laughing, collaborating, and growing in confidence across a broad and balanced curriculum that extends well beyond the classroom.
If you’re joining us tomorrow, we can’t wait to meet you and show you what makes West House such a special community.

We understand how important that decision is. Families choose West House for many reasons, often united by what they find here: a balanced approach to learning and a warm, nurturing environment where children grow in confidence, curiosity and independence.
We’re delighted to invite you to our Open Morning on Friday 5th June, 9:30 am – 12:00 pm. No appointment is necessary, and you are welcome to join us at any point during the morning.

What happens beyond the classroom matters just as much as what happens inside it.
With a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities each week, pupils are encouraged to explore their interests, stay active, and build confidence in different settings.
The school day runs from 7:30 am until 6:00 pm, offering real flexibility for working parents. Pupils can take part in clubs such as cricket, chess, Mandarin, board games, hockey, drama, art and music, or use the time for prep and homework in a supported environment.
These experiences help pupils develop commitment, independence and a sense of belonging beyond the classroom.

We are delighted to share that following the recent Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) visit, West House School has successfully met the rigorous standards in all areas, with the exceptional distinction of being recognised for a significant strength.
In a rare accolade awarded to only around 10% of schools, inspectors praised The West House Way as a significant strength of the school, stating:
“Leaders’ systematic implementation of ‘The West House Way’ across all aspects of school life is a significant strength of the school.”
The report celebrated West House’s culture of kindness, positive relationships, confidence, inclusion, and excellence - highlighting outstanding safeguarding, inspiring teaching, and a broad educational experience spanning academics, sport, music, drama, art, and Forest School.
Headmaster Alistair Lyttle said:
“It’s great to learn that the ISI has identified what we see embedded throughout the school. While academics lie at the heart of what we do, along with sport, music, drama, art and Forest School, it is the culture of the school that provides its distinctive feature.”
This recognition reflects the dedication of our exceptional staff, pupils, and supportive parent community.
We are incredibly proud of this achievement and of the vibrant school community that makes West House so special.

Reopening of Duce Hall ✂️🎉
Pupils, parents and guests of the school joined together to mark a very special occasion, 46 years after the original opening of Duce Hall! 🏫🌟
The recently upgraded sports hall facility was officially re-opened this week and there was no better person than our previous head of PE and Games, Mark Denham, to have the honour of cutting the ribbon in front of the school! ✂️🙌
A basketball exhibition match from Y6 followed and Mr Denham took to the court once again to officiate the matches! Thank you to everyone who was part of a wonderful event! 🏀⛹️♂️
