Team ICPLASTIC is pleased to announce their second Training School – “Microplastic Research – Analytical Methods for Microplastic Quantification”, scheduled for early October 2025 (more details will be shared with registered applicants).

This fully online Training School aims equip attendees with comprehensive knowledge on the theory, techniques, and interdisciplinary aspects of micro- and nanoplastic research.

The online Training School will feature 8 two-hour online lectures and three panel discussions, each hosting leading experts.

🌍 Help Shape the Future of Microplastic Analysis! 🔬
The European Commission has set an ambitious target: reduce microplastic emissions by 30 % by 2030—and science is key to achieving this.
The JRC in Geel, Belgium, one of the world’s major producers of reference materials, has an active role in advancing microplastic analysis.

To ensure these efforts align with global lab capabilities, the JRC will be organising an interlaboratory comparison study (ILC) on characterising aged PET particles (micro- and sub-micrometre size) in water.
But first, we need your input!

‘Team ICPLASTIC’ is excited about getting together for its 2nd General Meeting, scheduled for September 25-26, 2025, at Ruđer Bošković Institute, Zagreb, Croatia. The two day hybrid event will feature a series of meetings and lab tours.
MC and/or WG members expected to attend in-person will receive an invite to do so, others interested to attend are welcome to participate online and an invitation will be sent to you. Please contact the Action Chair by August 22, 2025, if you have not yet received an invite.

The Sample Analysis sub-group of ICPLASTIC's working group 3 met online today in a collaborative session to discuss the role of machine learning in microplastic research and future trends in the field.

Our WG6 is preparing for the deliverable titled "Report on toxicological studies to undertake a risk analysis of micro- and nanoplastics (MNPs) in humans" by conducting a survey aimed at identifying laboratories and parties interested in toxicological research. The goal is to map laboratory capabilities and resources, and to gain a better understanding of the types of test plastic particles available across the network.

We look forward to the insights this survey will bring and, ultimately, to the successful completion of the deliverable.

We are pleased to announce the upcoming Virtual Mobility (VM) call.

The call will open on 1 July 2025 and close on 15 August 2025. All applicants will be notified of the outcome by 30 August 2025, with VMs potentially starting as early as 1 September 2025. Please note that all VMs must be completed by 31 October 2025, and this should be taken into account when planning your application.
