Fabulous advice from Mani Hayre
Lessons I've learned from being unemployed Other than it sucks! You can learn a lot from being unemployed, it's a great chance to self-reflect and potentially change course in your career. I’m in my entire working career, I’ve been unemployed 6 months in the 14 years I’ve been working, which is not bad going.
Its 2018, its more then likely that you've set yourself a career goal (general tip: try to set yourself a goal in each area of your life, and make them smart with mini milestones). Whilst goals deserve their own post I wanted to spend a few minutes discussing effective action.
We were recently working with an indvidual who had applied for the perfect job for him. Looking at the person specification it looked like the role could have easily been written directly for him. The problem; he had applied for the role before christmas and not heard anything since.
After opening his application and reading his personal statement the reason was clear to both of us. His first couple of sentences has a number punctuation and gramattical errrors which probably meant no one read more than two lines.
The applicant has spend around 10 hours on the application but didnt ask anyone to proofread, thats all the application needed a bit of proofreading.
If possible get someone to read your application before or at the very least read your personal statement in reverse one sentence at a time.
Good luck with the finding the right job for you in 2018.

Fear of the unknown can either cause one to become a prisoner or you can turn that fear into curiosity.
We live in exciting times, yes a pinch of cynicism is healthy, but in our humble opinion the best trait from childhood is curiosity. Adults need to be more curious, step out of their comfort zone and aim high.
Why do we tell children they can achieve anything they put their minds to but don't believe the same of ourselves ?
It's easy to read and like but what action will you take to make a change, how will you use this quotation as motivation to help you ?
So let us finish by asking, what drives you ?

Research, Research, Research.
An alarming amount of feedback received from employers shows that most candidates who are interviewed for junior positions fail to research the company.
According to one member of our team thats akin to "walking into KFC and asking for a Big Mac".
Before an interview (I would advocate before applying) check out the companies website, twitter and page. Also try to look up the interviewer on Linkedin.
Want to really impress the employer?
Research the competition
Come up with suggestions of how the company (the one you want to work at) can overtake the competition.
Side tip:
Clean up your own social media footprint, if you impress the interviewer they most likely will look you up on twitter, facebook and linkedin.
