Here are some highlights from our School Readiness Stay and Play last week ✨ Startwell

We celebrated the 50th anniversary of National Smile Month at our School Readiness Stay and Play session.

This year marks 50 years of the UK’s largest and longest-running oral health campaign, led by the Oral Health Foundation, promoting healthy smiles and good oral health habits for children and families.

At our session, we delivered an oral health workshop for parents and children, sharing simple ways to look after little teeth. Startwell character Smiley Shen helped us learn why brushing twice a day, choosing healthy snacks, and regular dental visits are so important.

Together, we explored fun ways to make toothbrushing part of everyday routines and talked about helping children build healthy habits for life.

Mini Springers' children have been getting the garden ready for our vegetables. 🥕

We have planted cucumbers, radishes, tomatoes, carrots and herbs.🌽

We hope to have something tasty to try soon!! 🥒

Let’s take a look at some highlights from our Startwell School Readiness Stay and Plays sessions last week! ✨ Startwell

💚 11th–17th May: Mental Health Awareness Week. 💚

This year’s theme is “Action,” encouraging us all to take steps to support our mental health and wellbeing.

At Startwell, we promote healthy lifestyles through mindfulness, recognising that eating well, staying active, and getting enough sleep all play an important role in how we feel emotionally and mentally.

During our School Readiness Stay and Plays sessions, we spoke with children about the importance of kindness—checking in on friends, asking if they’re okay, and supporting each other. We also explored healthy habits through fun activities, linking in Fay Five a Day, Active Azra, and 180 Katie.

By building these positive habits early, we help children develop the foundations for strong mental well-being.

As part of the Healthy Childhood Programme, five children from Boost Kids Club at Greet Primary and Springfield Primary Academy proudly took part in the Junior Great Birmingham Run! 🏃✨

It was wonderful to see them soaking up the atmosphere and giving it their all — we are so proud of their amazing effort! 💛

A huge thank you to the families who came to cheer them on, and to Miss Gibson from Springfield Primary for her time and support.
