DON’T TELL — TEACH. 🥊

There’s a big difference between telling a boxer to throw a shot and teaching them how, why and when to throw it.

Technique isn’t just about how a punch looks. It’s about understanding the whole movement — feet, balance, head position, rotation, timing, distance and recovery.

I want my boxers to understand it step by step.

Get the feet set correctly.
Stay balanced through the movement.
Get the head to the right position at the line.
Rotate through the hips and shoulders.
Let the shot travel naturally.
Land at the right time and distance.
Then recover back into a position where you’re ready to defend or go again.

Power shouldn’t be forced.

You don’t need to smash every shot into the pads to create power. When the technique is right, the body does the work for you. The feet initiate the movement, the hips and torso rotate, the shoulder comes through and the punch is delivered as one connected action.

That rotation is where efficiency comes from. Don’t force the punch — allow the mechanics to produce the punch.

Just as importantly, your head position has to match the shot. I don’t want a boxer generating power while leaving their head sitting on the centre line and themselves open to a counter.

We’re setting the shot up, moving into the correct position, delivering it at the right time and the right moment, and finishing in a position where we’re still safe.

That’s why I believe in teaching rather than telling.

Don’t just say “throw the right hand harder.” Teach them where the power comes from. Teach them why their feet matter. Teach them why they rotate. Teach them where their head needs to be. Teach them how to land without unnecessarily putting themselves in harm’s way.

When a boxer understands why something works, they don’t have to rely on being constantly told what to do.

They can see it.
They can feel it.
They can execute it.

Technique first. Timing second. Power follows.

DON’T TELL. TEACH. 🥊

The Architect travelled down to Southampton today for his first bout representing DNA. 🥊

First one back for the season, and he showed plenty of courage, determination and heart in there.

Big congratulations, mate. ♟️Keep pushing, keep learning and keep getting brighter.

Hopefully we’ll have another 6 or 7 bouts before Christmas, keeping the team busy and active. 🥊

Keep your eyes peeled… 👀

An injury might change the plan, but it doesn’t have to stop the work. 🥊

Sometimes you can’t train the way you want to. You can’t push the same movements, the same intensity, or do everything you normally would.

But there’s ALWAYS something you can work on.

Technique. Movement. Timing. Fitness. Your weaknesses. Or simply staying disciplined enough to show up.

The biggest battle is the mindset.

It’s easy to work when everything feels good. The real test is finding a way forward when things aren’t going your way.

Don’t be stupid with an injury. Respect it. Recover properly. But don’t use it as an excuse to switch off completely.

Adjust the work. Change the focus. Keep showing up.

There is always something you can improve. 💯🥊

Your fighter gets cut in a title fight. You’ve got 60 seconds. Do you know what to do? 🥊

Being a coach isn’t just about what happens in the gym. When you step into that corner, you’re responsible for your fighter’s safety, wellbeing and performance.

Can you recognise the type of cut? Control the bleeding? Manage swelling? Use adrenaline and Vaseline correctly?

When the pressure is on, there’s no time to guess.

That’s where the years of knowledge and experience from John Pegg and Anthony Hull come in—giving you a clear structure to stay calm, understand what you’re looking at and know what needs to be done.

Don’t wait until your fighter is bleeding and the clock is ticking to learn.

Prepare. Learn. Understand.

Knowledge is power. Keep learning. Keep giving back. 🥊

A lot of people get sprints and interval running mixed up — especially when it comes to boxing conditioning.

For me, they both have a place, but they’re not the same thing.

🥊 Boxing is explosive. You’re not working at one steady pace for the whole fight. You explode, recover, move, explode again — and your conditioning should prepare you for that.

Sprints are about speed, power and producing a hard effort when your body is under pressure.

Intervals are about repeated efforts — pushing the pace, recovering, then going again. That ability to recover and reproduce your work is massive in boxing.

I see too many fighters either doing endless steady runs or turning every running session into the same workout.

There’s a time for your longer runs.
There’s a time for intervals.
And there’s a time to SPRINT.

Everyone has their own way of conditioning fighters. I have mine.

I’ve used it, tested it and seen what it does when fighters have to keep producing late into rounds.

Train the engine. Train the recovery. Train the explosiveness.

Running for boxing isn’t just about getting miles in — it’s about knowing why you’re running and what you’re trying to improve.🏃‍♂️💨

🥊 KNOWLEDGE IS POWER. KEEP LEARNING. KEEP GIVING BACK.

Saturday was another brilliant, brilliant Cutman Course, run by Anthony Hull and John Pegg and accredited by the British Boxing Board of Control.

Between these courses, we’ve now taught over 820 people, and it’s fantastic to see so many of them go on to do great things, improve their skills and become better, more knowledgeable trainers and cornermen.

That’s what these courses are all about — KNOWLEDGE. 🧠🥊

Learning from years of experience, understanding what needs to be done and when it needs to be done, and then giving that knowledge back to others.

If you’re unsure about hand wrapping, dealing with cuts, or understanding your role in the corner, don’t wait until you need those skills.

🔥 BOOK YOURSELF ONTO OUR NEXT COURSE.

Improve your knowledge. Improve your confidence. Improve what you can offer your fighters.

📞 Any questions, give us a ring on 07 800 766 818.

Knowledge is power. Keep learning. Keep giving back. 🥊

TRUST THE PROCESS. TRUST YOUR COACH. TRUST YOUR TEAM. 🥊

A solid hour of hard work and focus with Rio, working around ring craft, technical ability and understanding the game.

These private technical sessions aren’t just about throwing punches or working harder. They’re about slowing things down, breaking situations apart and understanding why, when and how to make the right decisions.

Distance. Timing. Angles. Foot positioning. Creating reactions. Controlling the ring. Knowing when to engage, when to move and when to reset.

A big part of developing as a boxer is also learning to trust your coach and trust your team. Sometimes they can see things from the outside that you can’t see in the moment. Being coachable, listening, asking questions and then putting that information into practice is all part of becoming a better, smarter fighter.

There are no shortcuts to developing real boxing IQ. It comes from repetition, communication, discipline and understanding the small details that make the difference when it matters.

Don’t just train to fight. Train to understand boxing. 🧠🥊

If you want to improve your ring craft, technical ability and overall understanding of the game through focused private coaching, get in touch.

🥊 THINK YOUR CHILD HAS WHAT IT TAKES? COME AND FIND OUT.

At D&A Boxing School of Excellence, we’re not just teaching children how to box — we’re helping them become stronger, more confident and more disciplined young people.

Whether they’ve never thrown a punch before or they already have experience in the ring, our aim is simple: develop them, challenge them and give them the tools to believe in themselves.

We believe every young boxer deserves the right environment, the right coaching and the opportunity to see what they’re capable of.

Our gym is a place where hard work is recognised, discipline matters and nobody is expected to be perfect — but everyone is expected to give their best.

If your child wants to learn boxing, build confidence, improve fitness or potentially take their boxing further, come down and see what D&A is all about.

Bring them through the doors. Let them experience the atmosphere. Let them see what they can become. 🥊

🔥 DON’T WONDER HOW GOOD THEY COULD BE — GIVE THEM THE CHANCE TO FIND OUT.
