This week has been an extension of our exciting trip to Barry Island. The children had lots of fun reflecting on their experiences and were very eager to share their memories with their friends. They enthusiastically talked about the huge sandcastle they built, the rides they enjoyed, and all the other exciting things they saw and did during their visit. As we approached Father’s Day, the children have also been busy creating special keepsakes for their daddies and other important male figures in their lives. They have taken part in a variety of creative activities, showing great enthusiasm and pride in making thoughtful gifts to celebrate the special people who care for them.

“Next week’s theme is sports. The children will take part in Sports Day and will also be learning about and discussing the ongoing football tournament.

We hope you all have a wonderful time at Barry Island, and we can’t wait to hear all about your adventures. This week, our theme was Zoo Animals, and the children thoroughly enjoyed exploring the wonderful world of animals. We began the week by discussing the different animals that can be found at the zoo, with the children excitedly naming lions, zebras, snakes, and many other fascinating animals. Through a range of engaging activities, the children developed their communication and language skills, expanded their understanding of the world, and enhanced their personal, social, and emotional development. They enjoyed mark-making activities, creating wonderful pieces of work that they were proud to take home and share with their families. During our morning walks, the children collected grass to feed our grass-eating animals, promoting physical development and encouraging curiosity about living things. Creative activities, early mathematical concepts, literacy experiences, and imaginative play were incorporated throughout the week, supporting all seven areas of learning in a fun and meaningful way. We look forward to next week’s exciting theme, Our Community, where the children will learn about the people, places, and helpers who make our community special

This week’s theme was Transportation, and the children had a wonderful time exploring the different types of transport and how we use them in our everyday lives. We began the week by talking about the various kinds of transportation such as cars, buses, trains, bicycles, aeroplanes, and boats, and discussed which forms of transport the children use to travel to nursery. The children enjoyed sharing their own experiences and learning why transportation is important for helping people travel safely from one place to another. Throughout the week, the children participated in a range of fun and educational activities that supported all seven areas of learning within the EYFS. Through group discussions and storytelling, the children developed their Communication and Language skills by expressing their thoughts and listening to others. Activities such as painting, mark making, role play, and creating transport models encouraged Expressive Arts and Design and Literacy development. The children strengthened their Physical Development through messy play activities, construction play, and outdoor movement games involving bikes and vehicles. Counting vehicles, sorting by size and colour, and recognising shapes and numbers supported their Mathematics learning. Exploring different vehicles and discussing how they work helped develop their Understanding the World. The children also built confidence, independence, and teamwork skills through sharing resources and participating in group activities, supporting their Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
Next week’s theme will be an extension of this topic as we move on to Road Safety. The children will learn about staying safe near roads, recognising traffic lights and pedestrian crossings, and understanding simple safety rules through interactive activities, role play, and outdoor learning experiences.

This week’s theme focused on food, supporting all seven areas of learning. In Communication and Language, the children engaged in discussions about their favourite foods and why our bodies need food to stay healthy and strong. For Physical Development, they practiced fine motor skills through activities such as mark making their favourite fruits and vegetables and helping to prepare pasta sauce. In Personal, Social and Emotional Development, we encouraged positive attitudes towards trying new foods and reinforced the importance of finishing meals during lunchtime. Literacy was supported through revisiting The Hungry Caterpillar story, helping children connect storytelling with healthy eating. In Mathematics, the children explored sorting and categorising foods into healthy and unhealthy groups. Understanding the World was developed as they learned about where food comes from and how it benefits our bodies. Finally, Expressive Arts and Design was encouraged through creative food-themed activities and imaginative play. Next week, our theme will be all about transportation.

This week’s theme, “All About Me and My Family,” gave the children a wonderful opportunity to explore their identities and relationships in a meaningful and engaging way. We began with circle time discussions about likes and dislikes, where the children confidently shared their favourite toys and activities they enjoy at home. This supported their communication and language skills while also building confidence and a sense of belonging (Personal, Social and Emotional Development). We extended these conversations to include body parts, helping to develop their understanding of themselves (Understanding the World) while encouraging vocabulary development. The children were especially excited to bring in pictures and posters of their families, proudly sharing who they live with whether it be their mum, sisters, baby brother, or aunties. These discussions are so important as they help children recognise and value their own family structures, build respect for others’ experiences, and strengthen their sense of identity and emotional security.
As the weather began to change, the children also explored what they could see happening outside, linking their observations to the world around them (Understanding the World). Our upstairs toddler group enjoyed spending time outdoors, observing flowers and expressing their creativity through art activities inspired by nature (Expressive Arts and Design). Throughout the week, children engaged in physical play both indoors and outdoors, supporting their gross and fine motor skills (Physical Development), while activities such as drawing their families and favourite things encouraged early writing and mark-making (Literacy). Counting family members and talking about differences and similarities also supported their mathematical thinking (Mathematics). Overall, the week was filled with fun, meaningful experiences that supported all seven areas of learning in a joyful and inclusive way.
Next week, our theme will be “All About Food,” where we will extend the children’s learning by exploring different foods and discussing the importance of toothbrushing and maintaining good oral hygiene to keep our teeth healthy.

This week’s theme focused on birds and insects, providing the children with a wide range of meaningful learning opportunities across all seven areas of development. Through expressive arts and design, the children engaged in painting and mark making, using different colours, textures, and patterns to represent birds, insects, and their natural habitats. In understanding the world, they explored their environment during our walk, using binoculars to observe birds in the trees and sky, listening carefully to sounds and showing growing curiosity about living things. The children eagerly shared their own experiences, talking about the birds and insects they have seen with their parents at home, in gardens, trees, and flowers, which supported their communication and language skills as they described their ideas and listened to others. These discussions also helped build personal, social and emotional development, as children gained confidence speaking in a group and valued each other’s experiences. Physical development was encouraged through outdoor exploration and handling tools such as binoculars and paintbrushes, strengthening both gross and fine motor skills. Literacy skills were supported through conversations, descriptive language, and early mark making, while mathematics was explored as children noticed patterns, counted features such as wings or legs, and compared sizes.
Next week, our theme will be “All About Me/Family.” To support this, we kindly ask parents to have simple discussions with their children about who they live with and their family members. If possible, please provide photographs so the children have something familiar to share and talk about with their peers, helping to build confidence and strengthen connections within the group.

Eid Mubarak 🕌!!! Happy Easter 🐣!!!!
This week’s theme focused on Easter celebrations, while also valuing the children’s recent experiences of Eid. We began by talking about Eid, as many children shared their excitement about the celebrations they enjoyed over the weekend, discussing presents, family gatherings, and special activities. This supported Communication and Language as children expressed their thoughts and listened to others, and Personal, Social and Emotional Development as they developed confidence and respect for different cultures and traditions. We then explored Easter through a variety of engaging activities. During the Easter egg hunt, children counted how many eggs they collected and sorted them by colour, promoting Mathematics skills and Understanding the World through exploration and comparison. The children also took part in messy play by filling empty eggs with sand and water, which is important for developing Physical Development through fine motor skills, as well as encouraging curiosity, sensory exploration, and problem-solving within Expressive Arts and Design. Additionally, the children made and decorated Easter baskets with the support of staff, fostering creativity and imagination while also supporting Literacy through following instructions and discussing their designs. Overall, the activities provided a rich and inclusive learning experience, incorporating all seven areas of learning in a meaningful and engaging way.
