In PE, year 1 have been developing their rolling skills alongside their defending skills. They had to try and roll the ball into the goal but their partner had to try and stop the ball getting in. They were amazing at this!

We have had another wonderful week in Reception! The children have been busy learning, exploring and getting creative.

As mathematicians, we have been learning all about heavy and light. The children even had a go at using the scales to weigh a variety of items from around the classroom. They enjoyed making predictions and finding out which objects were heavier or lighter! ⚖️

During our ‘Get Busy’ sessions, the children have enjoyed lots of hands-on activities. They have:

🎨 Made their own caterpillars using paint and corks.
🐛 Created caterpillars from playdough, using wooden sticks for their antennae.
🍯 Practised their fine motor skills by threading Honey Loops onto pipe cleaners.

In English, we have begun exploring the much-loved story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. The children particularly enjoyed tasting a variety of different fruits, just like the caterpillar! 🍎🍐🍓🍊

Year 6 have started a new book called October and have been getting to know the main character, October, by making careful inferences from the text.

The children have explored what October thinks and feels about living off-grid, considering how her life compares to what life in a city might be like. They have used clues from the author to infer her thoughts, feelings and personality at the beginning of the book.

It has been fantastic to see the children thinking deeply about the character and using evidence from the text to justify their ideas.

Our cricket skills are really coming along in Year 6! The children have been developing their understanding of how to build innings and learning that accurate throwing and catching to teammates is key to a successful game.

We then put our skills to the test in a mini game of cricket, giving everyone the chance to apply what they have been practising. It was fantastic to see their teamwork, communication and enthusiasm on display.

Year 6 History Learning – Life for Women During WWII
This week, Year 6 have been working like historians to investigate what life was like for women during the Second World War.

The children have been developing their historical enquiry skills by studying photographs, primary sources and first-person accounts, using clues from the evidence to make careful inferences about women’s experiences during wartime.

They have been asking thoughtful questions, considering different perspectives and using evidence to support their ideas.

We’re so impressed with the curiosity and maturity they have shown while exploring this important part of history!
