We're finalists!

Delighted to share that Birmingham Assay Office has been named a finalist at this year's The NAJ Awards in the Community Engagement of the Year category.

Our Careers Day back in March was a highlight of 2026, and our all-star line-up of partners, exhibitors, and speakers made it a spectacular event for our 150 guests.

While our place in the jewellery industry is often thought of as a regulatory one, it is our shared responsibility to engage the next generation and show them exactly what this industry has to offer.

We wanted to offer an interactive event that would educate and inspire, and we're so proud of the varied facets we got to present to our visitors, in what was a first interaction with the trade for many.

Another huge thank you to all of our partners, exhibitors, and speakers for all their hard work.

The day was an amazing show of community from the Quarter and beyond.

Cheers to 50 years! 🥂

Yesterday afternoon, the whole of Birmingham Assay Office stepped away from our workbenches to celebrate our team members Gareth and Tina, and thank them for 50 years in service, each!

With a combined century of experience, Gareth and Tina work on our hallmarking team, and both started on 9th August 1976.

If you've ever visited us, there's a good chance you will have met them both on a tour of the operations floor, as we often rely on them to share their knowledge with our guests.

Tina and Gareth have worked at Birmingham Assay Office for a combined 36,524 days and during their tenure, they have:

⚓ Worked with seven Assay Masters
⚓ Seen 10 Prime Ministers in Number 10
⚓ Witnessed the introduction of the internet and mobile phones into the company

Truly an amazing milestone to toast to, and all to the soundtrack of the Bay City Rollers, at Tina's request.

Happy Ozzy Day to all who celebrate! And we certainly did celebrate last night. 🦇💜

Fans, friends, and family came together yesterday at to remember .

While it was, of course, an emotional evening, it was also full of smiles, laughter, and applause.

During ' interview, reminded everyone that Ozzy would want us to "yank up the music really loud, as loud as you can get it, and just head bang."

We were given a moment with Sharon so that could present her with the medal she designed in Ozzy's honour.

Sally Costen fit countless references to his life, work and Brum onto the art medal, which won Gold in the 2D Medal Design category at this year's .

As named award patrons, Birmingham Assay Office and Thomas Fattorini collaborated on the category, with Sally's winning design brought to life in silver by the world-renowned medal and insignia maker.

A medal fit for a legend.

Another excellent edition of our Valuers' Experience Days. ✅️

These groups are small but mighty, offering those new to valuation, or studying to become a valuer an opportunity to see behind-the-scenes at BAO.

Visitors have a go at hallmarking, get up close to our advanced gemmological equipment, and, of course, spend time with our valuers. 🔎

A rare opportunity to speak with experts in their day-to-day working environments.

Interested in joining us next time? The tours are available to current and past CAT and FoAP students, new members of the IRV, and individuals wishing to find out more about practical approaches to valuation.
