Everyone's favourite clocktower is lighting up throughout January, February and March as part of our special 125th anniversary celebrations.
Over the course of the year there will be plenty of opportunities for our alumni to celebrate with us, including our open-air concert on Saturday 21 June!
Set against the iconic backdrop of the Green Heart and Old Joe, it will feature the University Philharmonic Orchestra, Jazz Orchestra, and a host of guest singers, bands and entertainment.

We are delighted to announce a new strategic alliance with Birmingham City Football Club (BCFC), bringing together two of the city’s most iconic institutions around a shared ambition for the city’s success.
As we celebrate our 125th anniversary, and BCFC its 150th, this new alliance will create new opportunities in research, education and health. From our world-leading sports academia and character education programmes to partnering with a focus on tackling health inequalities, we will be working together to playing our part in enhancing the city’s reputation on the global stage.

We are proud of the 20 alumni from the University who were recognised in the 2025 New Year Honours List. They have each made outstanding contributions to society and their communities and we extend our congratulations to them.

We were proud to see 20 students and alumni competing at the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, with eight medalists to celebrate. Many more graduates were involved behind the scenes as coaches, officials, administrators, working in the media or volunteering in some capacity.
