s, including those with SEND, in developing literacy and all English skills including reading, writing, comprehension, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Mathematics is also supported which covers your child's problem solving abilities and arithmetic skills, including their knowledge of the times tables. Entrance exam techniques are also offered along with preparing for Oxbridge's admissions procedures. Early reading and writing skills are also developed with our unique programme, Nurseryphonics, which is a combination of lively, interactive singing and language activities with an emphasis on pure fun and enjoyment for 0-5 year olds including those with SEND. Nurseryphonics has been specifically designed to harness the distinctive opportunities that pre-school children have to develop phonemic awareness (phonics) through engaging play activities based on traditional nursery rhymes. Nurseryphonics is an enjoyable and very effective way to teach your child important pre-reading skills based on the use of phonics. The system cleverly utilises well loved nursery rhymes and songs to introduce letter sounds and focuses on the first important steps in developing your child’s early reading and writing skills. Miralee Askew is an experienced practitioner and former primary school Headteacher with two young adult daughters. Her eldest daughter is an Oxford University graduate, who occasionally assists Miralee with her in-person tuition sessions, and also offers History tuition at GCSE and A level, along with Oxbridge entrance exam preparations. Who's coming along for this play-a-long on Tuesday May 19th in Harborne? (We actually start on May 12th!)

No, that's really not me singing in the video clip, but I'll be encouraging you to do so with your 0-5 year old, and showing you ways to use this rhyme to develop a whole raft of early learning skills!

This rhyme may be about tiny little creatures but it's one that has potential to do some major developmental heavy lifting! 🏋️‍♀️

There's counting and number sense involving sequencing 1-10, exposure to number order, loads of repetition to give little ones confidence, seeing and hearing numbers used in context via my uniquely designed images and a vehicle towards a young child being able to understand early maths.

There's huge potential too for consolidating loads of language and vocabulary, gross motor skills, memory and social-emotional learning.

You may be wondering why any of this matters...

Think of it like this: future learning as a child grows becomes much more demanding. If the foundational skills are not there to be built on, that could spell significant challenges that no child wants to endure, and I've witnessed extreme and avoidable outcomes during the past 40+ years in teaching.

Take something like the 11+ in Maths.

It tests numerical reasoning BIG TIME, so children who've experienced relevant and stage appropriate play based support, will probably have an intuitive feel for number order, quantity awareness and sequencing, so will likely find that things like mental maths, pattern spotting and problem solving comes far more easily to them later on in, say, Year 3, 4 and 5.

This rhyme is essentially your child's first number line! 0️⃣1️⃣2️⃣3️⃣4️⃣5️⃣6️⃣7️⃣8️⃣9️⃣🔟

This September, launching in Harborne, is a brand-new English Tuition Club at St Mary's Parish Hall, Vivian Road, B17.

For the first half of the Autumn Term (1), we’ll be diving into the classic text The Iron Man by Ted Hughes - using it to inspire exciting writing, reading comprehension, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval, sequencing, summarising, handwriting and vocabulary activities.
