Ambition got Macbeth the crown… and destroyed everything else. 👑
One of the biggest mistakes students make in GCSE English Literature is writing what Macbeth does without analysing why Shakespeare presents ambition as so dangerous.
In this carousel, I break down key quotations, methods, context and examiner-worthy ideas around Macbeth’s vaulting ambition so students can move beyond basic retelling and into higher-grade analysis.
If your child is revising Macbeth, save this post for later and share it with someone who needs it.
As a GCSE examiner, I can tell you this: the top answers focus on Shakespeare’s message, not just the plot.

Did you know that if your child attends one of my Masterclasses, they get their work produced in the session marked as part of this service?
It was so lovely to receive this email to see how this helped this student.

Huge congratulations to our Undergraduate Science Tutor, Georgina Warren-Love who completed her last university practical today!
Not every child needs weekly after-school tuition.
Not every family wants to commit to another fixed evening in an already busy week. Between hockey, ballet, piano, clubs and everything else, many children are already stretched and parents are juggling enough.
That’s exactly why my Holiday Bundles have been so popular.
You purchase 10 one-to-one sessions and use them when it suits your family and when your child needs the support most.
Sessions are available one Saturday a month and during school holidays.
It gives you flexibility, expert support, and no weekly pressure.
Current price: £450 for 10 sessions
That works out at £45 per hour instead of £60 per individual session.
As a special offer, if you DM me APRIL, I’ll send you the link to secure 10 sessions at last year’s price of £380 before the offer ends.
Ideal for busy families who still want high-quality support without another weekly commitment.
If your child is revising Macbeth right now, this is where most are going wrong…
They know the plot.
They recognise the quotes.
They’ve read the revision guide.
But when it comes to the exam…
they don’t know how to turn that into marks.
As a GCSE English examiner, I see this every year.
Students are not struggling because they don’t know enough.
They are struggling because they don’t know how to answer the question effectively.
That is exactly what I fix in my Macbeth Masterclass.
In this 1-hour session, I will take students through:
• How to break down the exam question
• How to plan a clear, high-level response
• How to analyse quotations in depth (not just explain them)
• How to meet AO1, AO2 and AO3 without using restrictive frameworks
• What examiners are actually looking for at Grades 7–9
-May 9th

- Register to attend live and receive recording
- Student workbook available
Why not download a free masterclass available as a digital download to see if this is right for your child?

Perfect Sunday today. Treated this lovely pair to a Sunday Roast then ice cream in the sun to follow.
Hope you've had a good day.
As a GCSE English examiner, this is something I see time and time again… and it’s holding students back.
Frameworks like P*E, PETAL and PEZAR can be helpful at Key Stage 3. They give students a starting point and some structure when they’re first learning how to analyse a text.
But here’s the problem…
Too many GCSE students are STILL relying on them.
And that’s exactly what is stopping them from reaching the higher grades.
At GCSE, examiners are not looking for rigid, formulaic responses. We are looking for depth. We are looking for students who can zoom in on a single word, explore its connotations, and analyse the effect on the reader with precision.
If your child is writing the same structure over and over again, they’re likely capping their potential.
They don’t need more paragraphs. They need better analysis.
In this free masterclass, I show exactly how to move beyond these limiting frameworks and start writing the kind of responses that achieve top grades.
