A presentation. A breakthrough. A challenge. An opportunity.

Welcome to My Place-meant - our new series sharing the moments that defined our students’ placement years.

First up: Marjana. During her placement as a Placement Support Assistant at Aston University, one student came to her struggling with their placement search and losing confidence.

My Place-meant…

travelling somewhere I’d never been before.
living in a new country.
working for a company I’d always wanted on my CV.
presenting my ideas to senior leaders.
working on projects that actually made an impact.
learning a new language.
experiencing a completely different culture.
meeting people from all over the world.
making friends I’ll keep long after university.
building a network before I even graduated.
finding a career I didn’t know existed.
discovering what I was really good at.
learning skills I couldn’t get from a lecture.
being trusted with real responsibility.
walking into rooms I never imagined I’d be in.
having my ideas taken seriously.
working alongside people I used to think were miles ahead of me.
stopping feeling like “just a student”.
having something I was genuinely proud to put on my CV.
finally having an answer when someone asked about my experience.
having stories to tell in interviews.
proving to myself that I could do it.
becoming more confident.
becoming more independent.
getting comfortable being uncomfortable.
saying yes to things that scared me.
doing things I didn’t think I was ready for.
changing my mind about what I wanted.
getting clearer about where I was going.
opening doors for what came next.
