Year 12 Acting presents Henry V!

There’s a new heir in town! Henry is ripped away from the excess of his younger, wilder days drinking and gambling, to be crowned the new King of England after the death of his father.

Fresh to the throne, he soon sets into motion a bloody war against France, in his drive to take over their territory and make his mark. Taking heavy inspiration from Guy Richie’s ‘The Gentlemen’ our version of Henry V becomes a fresh take on this classic play, pushing the stylistic elements that are so iconic with Richie’s work. Henry’s aristocratic origins are at odds with the drug and gang empire he has inherited, and he needs to make bold and bloody choices to cement his rule as leader.

He, and his people, must now navigate a world of eclectic and dangerous characters to ensure he remains king and takes what he’s been assured is rightfully his…but at what cost

Year 12 Acting presents As You Like It!

In As You Like It, witty words and romance play out against the disputes of divided pairs of brothers.

We first meet Orlando and his older brother, Oliver, who schemes to have Orlando die in a wrestling match. Meanwhile, Duke Frederick has forced his older brother, Duke Senior, into exile in the Forest of Arden. Duke Senior’s daughter, Rosalind, and Duke Frederick’s daughter, Celia, meet the victorious Orlando at the wrestling match; Orlando and Rosalind fall in love. Banished by her uncle, Rosalind assumes a male identity and leaves with Celia and their fool, Touchstone. Orlando flees Oliver’s murderous plots. In the Forest of Arden, Rosalind, in her male disguise, forms a teasing friendship with Orlando. Oliver, searching for Orlando, reforms after Orlando saves his life. Rosalind reveals her identity, triggering several weddings, including her own with Orlando and Celia’s with Oliver. Duke Frederick restores the dukedom to Duke Senior, who leaves the forest with his followers.

In our version we are taking inspiration from ‘69 Woodstock embracing the music and vibes of peace and love for everyone. With this in mind we have taken all gender out of the play and are celebrating the LGBTQ+ community and the idea that love knows no bounds.

Directed by James Lees, supported by Jodie Cowell.

BOA's Social Ambassadors have arrived in Small Heath, Birmingham!

A very welcoming reception from our new partnership school Ark Victoria.

The first school we have visited from the Ark Academy Trust, a charity that aims to transform children's lives through education. Assistant Head Ms Gamran gave us a great overview on arrival on the climate and challenges of integrating Performing Arts into the budget of Schools and that our outreach workshops are a much appreciated and needed resource for their Primary School and the children.

Today it's a drama workshop with the whole of Year 4 based around their current curriculum on Anglo Saxons and Vikings.

We found out that "Beormund ingas ham" (Birmingham) is derived from the Anglo-Saxon meaning farm/homestead ...Top Team Year 12's!

Lead by creative lead Nye C. Nye is also an Ormiston Trust Youth Advisor.

BOA SUPER SATURDAY SCHOOL last week were preparing for our Festival of Sharing on Saturday 4th May.

The children of Birmingham were in full swing with the technical rehearsal.

We have been teaching them all the systems, practices and technical terms for how Theatre works: learning their stage right from their stage left; not talking in the wings and, if you can see the audience from side of stage, they can see you!

Loving the craft of theatre, loving the connection of social action!

At BOA we zoomed into our 6th week at the BOA Super Saturday School and we have been grateful to be collaborating with our sister academy BOA Stage & Screen.

The amazing team of filmmakers from Stage & Screen have been following a creative brief to put a lens to the Social Action at BOA and follow the journey of the "Birmingham child" from primary school workshops delivered by our BOA performing arts students, to taking part in the BOA Super Saturday School, to one day the possibility of making their dreams come true and become a student here.

Collaborative, process driven social action.
