In Emotional Intelligence sessions I often help people understand that as leaders and managers we should listen more than we speak.
As Sir Winston Churchill once said;
"Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen."
If we constantly speak and fail to listen enough, people will learn to stop talking to us. That loses the ideas, suggestions and opinions of our people, all that innovation is.
