🙏 Thank you to everyone who joined us for yesterday’s live event - our very first LinkedIn Live!

It was a brilliant (if slightly stressful) way to celebrate the launch of our Sustainability Strategy 2025–2030.

People across our whole organisation have shaped this strategy, and yesterday’s conversation (even with the technical glitch 😳) showed just how much passion and collaboration sat behind it.

We had 👍 63 event registrations, including people from as far afield as Jamaica 🇯🇲 and Nepal 🇳🇵, and our chosen format meant we could facilitate live Q&A.

To make it easy to explore, we’re sharing our Strategy on a Page - a simple snapshot of our purpose, vision and the principles guiding our work across campus, curriculum and community.

Over the past few years, sustainability has become part of everyday life at University College Birmingham: in our teaching, our campus, our partnerships and our community. As the strategy reflects, it’s “embedded and threaded through the culture of our community”

Not the work of one department, not a side project, but all of us, all the time.

This week, we’re bringing that story together.

Sustainability isn’t something that sits apart from our lives as an abstract idea or theory - it’s shaped by the people and communities around us.

You don't have to look far to see that here in Birmingham, climate, nature and inequality are everyday realities. They influence how our students learn, how our staff work, and how our neighbours live.

That’s why our approach to sustainability starts with community:

🤝 partnerships and
💕 shared purpose

that make this great city what it is.

Through our work with the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges () and collaboration across the region, we’re strengthening how sustainability is woven through our curriculum, campus and community, making it relevant, inclusive and rooted in lived experience.
