🌼 Mother Musings - Light & Shadow 🌼
Last week I talked about the strengths of The Mother Archetype. How her powerful energy brings out our caring, compassionate, and nurturing side. Embracing the light qualities of this archetype can help you take joy in nurturing people and projects. Pouring love, care and attention into every detail.
However, every archetype also has a shadow side. For the Mother, this can show up like:
🤐 Constantly putting herself last
🤐 Ignoring her own needs
🤐 Struggling to set boundaries
🤐 Needing to be needed
🤐 Feeling unappreciated, or resentful
The Mother has a deep well of unconditional love and the heart of a lioness. She will defend the things she loves at all costs. But she cannot keep giving and giving without receiving. There needs to be a balance between taking care of her own needs as well nurturing others, for her to be at her best.
If you'd like to explore the light and shadow sides of the Mother Archetype and find the balance that sustains you, this is exactly what we'll be doing in June's Release & Receive breathwork session.

Befriending resistance is a practice of learning to notice, normalise and work with (rather than against) resistance when it comes up. It's a way of being curious and compassionate towards it. Rather than fighting, ignoring, or disowning it.
You can think of resistance as a character you slip into. One who has you behaving in ways that stop you from taking action on the thing you want. Whether that's a business goal, a personal project, or something else that's important to you.
If you ever find yourself:
🙋🏼♀️ Procrastinating, despite knowing exactly what you want to do
🙋🏼♀️ Suddenly losing interest in the thing you're working on
🙋🏼♀️ Needing everything to be perfect before making a move
🙋🏼♀️ Slipping into harsh self criticism
🙋🏼♀️ Feeling like everyone and everything is against you
These are signs of resistance. They pop up unannounced and before you know it, they've distracted you from your best laid plans.
In the upcoming Release & Receive breathwork session, we’ll explore different ways resistance can show up and what makes it so convincing. We'll also meet it with compassion - so you can develop a new relationship with it. Instead of hating it for holding you back.
Resistance doesn't have to be an enemy, it's a sign of growth and it's normal! When you learn to see it this way and work alongside it, it helps you stay on track with your goals and be kinder to yourself in the process.
If you'd like to discover how befriend your resistance, so it can become a source of strength, instead of stress, come and join us at next week's Release & Receive breathwork session 💫
It's on Wednesday 29th May 8 - 9:30pm. No prior experience is needed. When you register (link in comments) you'll receive video instructions on how to do conscious connected breathwork. Plus a bonus 12 minute breathwork download so you can get a feel for what we'll be doing on the day.
Hope to see you there 💖

📆 Resistance Befriending Breathwork - Weds 29th May 8-9:30pm 📆
Blimey, how has a whole month nearly gone again? It's almost time for this month's Release & Receive breathwork session. And totally in keeping with the theme, I've been resisting promoting it🤣. So I think it's fair to say that resistance is something that's close to my heart.
The reason I chose this theme is because we've been working with seasons and cycles and female archetypes over our sessions for a few months now. As we move into the summer months, the mother archetype is the one who represents summer. So it's coming towards the time to explore her as a theme. And my resistance to creating The Mother session is really rearing its head!
The mother can be a tricky topic for many reasons. Some people have great relationships with their Mother, some don't. Some women are mothers, some aren't. For some this is by choice, for others it's by circumstance. Some women are biological mothers, some adoptive, some surrogate. Some people's mothers are still alive, others aren't. And there are probably lots of other Mother related things I've completely missed there.
Whilst distracted with all those thoughts👆🏼, I've avoided creating the and instead I've also...
🙅🏼♀️Decided it's a really bad idea. Stupid even - what was I thinking?
🙅🏼♀️Lost interest in the female archetypes completely.
🙅🏼♀️Made lists and lists of other themes to cover instead.
🙅🏼♀️Felt overwhelmed and confused - where do I even begin?
🙅🏼♀️Convinced myself the group won't want it.
🙅🏼♀️Questioned "who do I think I am" to introduce this theme when I'm not a mother myself?
The Mother archetype isn't necessarily about being a mother of children by the way. It's a mother energy and it can show in many different ways. But my brain went to all the other stuff because my resistance kicked in and took over. So much so that I couldn't see things any other way.
Instead a whole load of inadvertent self-sabotage kicked in to cover up for what was really going on underneath. Which is the fear of getting it wrong, upsetting someone, or talking out of turn.
This is what resistance does. It protects you from your fears, keeping you busy and distracted with lots of reasonable reasons for not getting on with the thing you actually want to do.
AND...
It's totally normal! Resistance is part of life, it's going to come up sometimes, but it doesn't have to stop you. You can learn to accept it and work with it. Instead of fighting, it, judging it or making it wrong. (Or completely giving up on the thing you want.)
So, if you'd like to explore how resistance shows up for you. How you can make better friends with it, so you can move out of self sabotage and do what you want to do, why not come along to this month's Resistance Befriending Release & Receive Breathwork?

As part of my preparation for this month’s Tree themed Release & Receive breathwork, I've been diving deeper into tree symbolism and have been reading about Celtic Ogham trees. So much to discover!
If you’re not familiar with it (I wasn’t either), Ogham is an early medieval writing script and the Ogham trees correspond to particular letters in it. Each tree is associated with a particular lunar month, creating a calendar of trees that begins on Christmas eve with the Birch Tree.
You’ll have to forgive me if I’ve messed this up (still learning!), but I think that we’re in the fifth lunar month at the moment, making the Willow Tree where we are on the calendar.
So here's some Willow based wisdom....
🌳Willows are resilient and flexible. Their branches can be bent and twisted and will adjust without snapping.
🌳They can grow and survive, even in challenging conditions.
🌳Their thin branches may look flimsy, but beneath the ground their roots are incredibly strong. They interweave and protect the banks of lakes and rivers where they grow from erosion.
🌳Willows have healing properties. In ancient times the bark was used as a treatment for cold and flu and young twigs were chewed, or brewed as tea for pain relief.
🌳They can be associated with death and are often found planted in graveyards. Spiritually they're associated with working through cycles of loss and grief, eventually leading to acceptance.
Flexibility, strength, resilience, protection, healing, loss, grief, acceptance - there's certainly lots to relate to in there. Does any of it resonate for you?
If it does and if you'd like to explore it a little deeper, why not come and join the other lovely women already registered for this month's Release & Receive breathwork? We'd love to have you with us. The link to register is in my bio. It's happening on Weds 24th April 8-9:30pm.
See you there??? 💋
P.S. - I discovered that my birth Tree is the Alder – symbolic of inner guidance. Fits quite nicely with being a breathworker doesn’t it?

🐢 Small Steps Are Enough 🐢
One of my intentions for creating the Release & Receive breathwork membership was to help women with busy lives develop a regular breathwork practice, WITHOUT a big demand on their time.
That’s why the ONE THING that happens on the same day and time every month is the 90 minute live group session on Zoom. (It’s on the last Wednesday of the month 8 - 9:30pm).
This is purposely meant to be a small step – because massive action and overly rigid routines just aren’t my thing.
Small steps are beautiful, small steps are enough, small steps are easy to commit to. I'm all for making life easier😊
Even one breathwork session a month can help you to experience a calmer mind, reduced stress, better sleep and clearer thinking.
Yes, there are a ton of resources to support your mind and body wellbeing in the Release & Receive membership. But if you join, YOU get to decide how often you want to use them and how they fit best around your life.
If you're curious to experience how I host a breathwork session (different practitioners have different styles and you may enjoy some more than others) I'd love to invite you to register for a free place at the session that's happening on Wednesday 24th April 8 - 9:30pm.
The link is in the comments below. When you register you'll receive a video introducing the practice and a 12 minute breathwork download so you can get a feel for what we'll be doing.
Hope to see you there 💋

Music is a really integral part of a breathwork session and I always enjoy going down a sonic rabbit hole finding tracks that not only fit with the theme, but also take you on a journey through different feelings and emotions.
This month's playlist includes tracks called Tree of Life, Call of the Forest, The Chant of Trees, Roots of Wisdom, Ethereal Forest etc. They range in style from meditative, to upbeat dance, to folk, to black metal (trust me, it does fit), to classical.
Along the way I also discovered there's a genre of music called Bard Core - who knew?🤣
I haven't used any, but if you've got time, check out Medieval Hip Hop Volume 1 on Spotify. The bard core version of In Da Club really did make me laugh. It sort of weirdly works.
The Tree based theme and music are designed to help you to connect to strength, flexibility, resilience, acceptance, sanctuary, wisdom, support, protection and anything else that trees may mean to you.
If you'd like to join me and the women in the Release & Receive membership for our breathwork session on Wednesday 24th April 8 - 9:30pm 🥰 you can register for a free place at https://www.lisaarcher.co.uk/registration-page-april-24
