This week we are celebrating our Silver Awards. 🥈

Hayley went to celebrate being awarded Silver in the Teaching Assistant category in The Pearson National Teaching Awards 🥈 Recognition for her knowledge, skills and talent. We’re incredibly proud. In November we’ll find out whether she wins gold. 🤞

Julia and Rubina attended Birmingham City FC to collect our Silver Inclusive Attendance award. This recognises the efforts of the whole school community regarding school attendance.

Yesterday our pupils were celebrated with their achievements recognised at the annual Forward Education Trust pupil celebration.

A huge thank you to our families for coming to support the event.

🌞How are we responding to the extreme hot weather warning?

As part of Forward Education Trust, we work with WRM (our Health & Safety competent partners). With their advice and guidance, we have updated our risk assessment for extreme hot weather.

If you would like a full copy, we are happy to provide this — but here is a simple overview of how we are keeping everyone safe.

✅ Things We Are Doing (School Actions)

🚍 Transport
• Asking providers to keep journey times as short as possible
• Avoiding early arrival and waiting on parked vehicles
• Encouraging windows to be opened for airflow

⚡ Epilepsy Support
• Authorising absence for pupils with epilepsy due to exceptional circumstances
• Hot weather can increase seizure risk (medication effectiveness, sweating, sleep disruption)

🏫 Classrooms
• Blinds closed to keep rooms cool
• Doors and windows opened early for airflow
• Fans used safely (below 35°C)
• Lights switched off where possible

💧 Hydration
• Frequent access to fresh, cool drinking water
• Encouraging regular drinking throughout the day

🔌 Electrical Equipment
• Switched off when not in use
• Not left on standby to reduce heat

🧊 PMLD Learners
• Frozen sensory resources for cooling play
• Cooling mats available for comfort and postural care

🌳 Outdoor Time
• Limited to shaded areas only during hottest parts of the day

📚 Curriculum Adjustments
• Reduced demands during extreme heat
• Activities adapted to suit conditions (more calming, flexible tasks)

🏊 Swimming
• Temporarily suspended due to heat and activity levels

💦 Cooling Measures
• Instant cooling mist sprays available in every class

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Things Families Can Do (Family Actions)

🧢 Hat
• Please send your child in with a hat every day

🧴 Suncream
• Apply before school
• Send in labelled suncream for reapplication if needed

👕 Clothing
• Dress children in lightweight, light-coloured clothing
• Send spare clothes if requested (especially for water play)

🥤 Hydration Support (Enterally Fed Pupils)
• Follow feeding plans and provide extra flushes where advised
• If your child has fluid restrictions, contact your specialist dietician team for guidance

With we can keep children safe and comfortable during extreme heat.

We are thrilled to announce that Hayley, a dedicated member the current Cheeky Cheetah team, has been awarded a prestigious 2026 Silver Teaching Award in their Teaching Assistant category by the Pearson National Teaching Awards.

This incredible recognition places Hayley among the UK's most exceptional educators and means they are now being considered for the overall Gold Teaching Award, which will be announced in late November. She’s 1 of only 5 in her category!

This achievement is a wonderful moment for our school community. We celebrated Hayley this afternoon in a low key affair with her class, families and most importantly children. As well as being a Silver Winner she’s also humble and the best person to provide the presentation of her plaque was a pupil.

The official announcement of all winners and certificate recipients was made public today at 5pm so she features in lots of national news articles.

Did you know this week is Learning Disability Week?

The theme is ‘Do you see me?’ highlighting visibility, inclusion and the value of people with learning disabilities.

Well yesterday Brays did just that……..we went to the National Finals of the Primary Enterprise Challenge and won the KS2 Recognition Award.

Congratulations to the team who represented school so well. We were incredibly proud.

Another exciting day for us tomorrow as we have an early start and head to Doncaster for the National Finals of the Primary Enterprise Challenge.
