π¨ Exploring Emotions with The Colour Monster π¨
The Hedgehogs at Merryvale have been enjoying learning all about emotions through the story of The Colour Monster.
The children have been exploring different colours and what feelings they represent, such as yellow for happiness, blue for sadness, red for anger, green for calmness and black for feeling scared. This has helped them begin to understand and talk about their own emotions in a fun and meaningful way.
Through storytelling, discussion and play, the children are developing their emotional awareness, communication skills and empathy for others. π

π Celebrating a Wonderful Achievement! π
A huge congratulations to Alex, who has been awarded the Level 2 Kindness Code Award! π
Alex is a truly valued member of our team, consistently going above and beyond to support both the children and their colleagues. Their kindness, care and dedication shine through every day, making a real difference to the lives of the children in our nursery.
Not only has Alex been a fantastic role model, but they have also inspired a love of gardening among the children. From planting and growing to caring for the allotment, Alex has helped little learners discover the wonders of nature, develop new skills and gain a better understanding of where food comes from. π±π
As if that wasn't enough, Alex has also achieved a Level 5 RHS Gardening Award, a fantastic accomplishment that reflects their passion and commitment.
Thank you, Alex, for everything you do. Your hard work, enthusiasm and kindness do not go unnoticed, and we are incredibly lucky to have you as part of our team.
π Please join us in congratulating Alex on these amazing achievements! π

πΌ Every nursery says they care, but families often notice the difference in the little things.
The conversations at pick-up time, the familiar routines that comfort children and the practitioners who genuinely know each childβs personality, interests and needs.

πΈ Flower Water Play in Hedgehogs πΈ
Our Hedgehogs have been busy exploring the flower water tray! Using old flowers, the children investigated which items would float and which would sink, while also enjoying lots of pouring, filling and emptying fun. π¦
This hands-on activity encouraged curiosity and exploration, helping the children develop their coordination and fine motor skills while introducing early scientific concepts through play.
It was lovely to see the children so engaged as they experimented, discovered and learned together. π

β¨ Loose Parts, Big Ideas! β¨
Today, the children enjoyed exploring loose parts, using a variety of open-ended resources to create, build and imagine in their own unique ways.
Loose parts play encourages children to think creatively, solve problems and communicate their ideas as they experiment and explore. With no right or wrong way to play, the children were free to lead their own learning, make decisions and discover new possibilities through hands-on experiences.πͺ΅
It was wonderful to see their imaginations come to life as they designed, constructed and collaborated with their friends.

π₯¬ Our First Harvest at Merryvale! π₯¬
Last week, the children enjoyed their very first introduction to healthy eating from the Merryvale vegetable patch! They carefully dug up, prepared and cooked our home-grown cabbage before enjoying it as part of their lunch. π±
This hands-on experience gave the children the opportunity to learn where food comes from, how it grows and the importance of making healthy food choices.
Did you know? Green cabbage is an excellent source of vitamins C and K, as well as fibre and antioxidants, helping to support immunity and bone health. π
At QCE, we are ambitious for every child, providing meaningful experiences that inspire curiosity, independence and a lifelong love of learning.

π§Έ Some of the most important learning moments happen in the smallest ways.
Pouring a drink independently, comforting a friend or proudly showing off a drawing all help children build confidence and self-belief. At QCE - Merryvale Nursery, we celebrate these everyday milestones that matter so much in early childhood.
