As a parent, you want to give your child every possible advantage when it comes to their education. That's why I wanted to share some thoughts about an approach that's making a real difference for many of our families: Pre 11+ preparation.

Why Start Early?
Rather than waiting until Year 6 when exam pressure builds, beginning in Years 4 and 5 allows your child to:

Develop familiarity with exam formats without stress or pressure

Build exam stamina gradually (it's a marathon, not a sprint!)

Bridge the gap between regular schoolwork and 11+ requirements

Identify and address learning gaps with plenty of time to spare

Many parents tell me they wish they'd started earlier - not to add pressure, but to remove it by spreading preparation over a longer period. Well, now you can!

Simple Ways to Begin
You don't need to dive into intensive studying right away. Start with these foundational activities:

Daily reading together - just 20-30 minutes with quality books slightly above their level

Quick mental maths practice - 10 minutes during everyday activities like shopping or adjusting recipe quantities

Memory-building games - fun family activities that strengthen essential cognitive skills, like taking turns building a story together and recalling the sequence of events.

These simple habits create the perfect foundation for more structured preparation later, while building positive associations and enjoyment of the exam preparation process that the whole family can participate in.
