RoSPA

We're a charity dedicated to our vision of life, free from serious accidental injury.

RoSPA aims to improve safety in all areas of life, without putting unnecessary restrictions on people's freedom. We believe that people should be given as much information as possible about the risks they may face, to enable them to undertake activities safely - rather than simply stopping people from taking risks at all.

The financial numbers usually cited to impress on us the importance of good safety management – and the cost of failure - are massive. But the sheer size of these figures can make them hard to grasp and even weaken their impact, since they are hard to relate to individual workplaces.

However, recent research could help change that.

In our latest feature article, Louis Wustemann takes a closer look at a new tool designed to calculate the value of safety to any organisation that could help strengthen the business case for OSH initiatives but also sell the benefits of a more holistic view of employee care and protection.

"Asserting that human error is responsible for 95 per cent of road accidents is a bit like saying that gravity is responsible for 100 per cent of falls. It doesn't get you very far, and there is an inevitable tendency to oversimplify and to assume that all error is simply inattention and/or conscious rule-breaking."

In the latest thought leadership piece, RoSPA's Roger Bibbings explores the topic of human factors and whether we really know our safety limits: https://www.rospa.com/news-and-views/human-factors-safety-limits

❄️ Drive with added caution amid looming cold weather! ❄️

As icy temperatures and disruptive snow sweep across Britain, we have some crucial advice to share.

Whether you're a seasoned driver or navigating winter conditions for the first time, this advice can help make a big difference.

📌 Slow down in plenty of time before bends and corners
📌 Increase the gap between you and the vehicle in front. You may need up to 10 times the distance for braking in good conditions
📌 Visibility will probably be reduced, so use dipped headlights
📌 Before you set off, check the weather conditions to ensure you’re not caught out
📌 Leave more time than usual for your journey, and check your tyres, fluid levels, lights and fuel or charge levels before you set off

Share these tips with your friends and family, and for more winter driving advice, view our factsheet here

Our Story

A registered charity established almost 100 years ago and aims to campaign for change, influence opinion, contribute to debate, educate and inform - for the good of all.

By providing information, advice, resources and training, RoSPA is actively involved in the promotion of safety and the prevention of accidents in all areas of life - at work, in the home, and on the roads, in schools, at leisure and on (or near) water.

RoSPA's mantra is 'sensible safety', advocating that activities in all walks of life should be as safe as necessary, not as safe as possible. It seeks to educate and inform, so as to enable people to make their own decisions and manage their own risks.
