This week the Nursery children have been putting their mathematical understanding into practise.
We have been learning about solving simple problems that involve addition and subtraction. To do this we first learned the number rhyme, 'One elephant went out to play on a spider's web one day.'
We acted out the rhyme indoors and out with the children creating their own web which utilised their mark-making skills too.
Just like in the rhyme when the elephants had 'enormous fun' calling for another one to come - the children even invited Mr Foyle our site manager to come and play!
We would like to wish all our families who are celebrating Eid Al-Adha, next week, 'Eid Mubarak'. We hope you have a marvellous time with family and friends.

We are learning to write letters in Year 2, and the children were tasked with re-piecing together a letter written to Mayor Thomas Bludworth, persuading him to stop the Great Fire of London. We also identified the key features of a letter, which will help us when writing our own, this week.

After visiting the school garden last week (well done our Garden Rangers and Ms Eaton), we came back to Nursery and looked around our own outdoor area. We have lots of new plants that we have recently added so we set about making some labels to identify them.
Amongst the plants that we are growing we have herbs such as mint, lemon balm, lavender, sage, oregano and rosemary.
On the flower front we have Forget-me-Nots, Oxeye Daisies, Nasturtiums, Sunflowers, Verbena, Lilac and Buddleia.
We are so looking forward to the Summer months when everything starts to bloom.
We have also been super scientists and have been on the look out for garden creatures too... we found slugs, snails, woodlice and plenty of earthworms. The children decided to have a mini-beast race on the slide! We won't tell you who won but it wasn't the snail!

During Art Day, Year 1 children explored a range of painting techniques focusing on brush control, primary and secondary colours and tone. They practised creating different lines, experimented with the colour wheel, and learned how to alter shades by adding water. Linking to our topic of seasons, pupils prepared painted backgrounds before creating seasonal tree artwork inspired by artists such as Piet Mondrian and Wassily Kandinsky.
