Promoting Learner Autonomy

Introduction
Many students enter a classroom lacking a clear conception of learning strategies. Another problem is that many teachers concentrate on the students doing rather than reflecting. This may produce some answers but will the students be able to apply the principles of doing such a task elsewhere? Will they be able to manipulate and reflect on a similar task at hand?
This paper introduces the concept of helping students learn to learn. This concept is called ‘Learner Autonomy.’ Students can achieve their potential if they know ways of improving their learning strategies. A learner training activity should intend to help students become aware of their learning strengths and weaknesses.
