Childminding Week feels like the perfect time to share this. 💜

Last week, we had a little knock at the door and in came two past children together, now both happily settled in year one of school. They were so confident, so full of joy, and absolutely desperate to come back inside “Claire’s house” and retell all the stories from when they were little. (Even asked to stay for a nap) 😂

It was honestly so lovely to have them back — especially when I had to carry them both out the door because they didn’t want to leave! 🥹

Then on Saturday, we went for a meal and bumped into one of my very first babies, now on her second shift at her first job. I got to give her the biggest squeeze and listen to her tell me all about completing her mock A-levels and how sixth form is going.

This statement is so true. Childminders often become part of family life for years and years. Whether it’s 3 years later or 12 years plus, it is an absolute honour and privilege to still be remembered, still be welcomed, and still be part of so many families’ stories.

I am so grateful. 💜

Happy Childminding Week! I’m bias but we totally are the best! 💚

LMC turns 5 today! 🎉

What started as something “temporary” through the end of a pandemic has grown into something so much bigger than I ever imagined.

Five years on, LMC has become a place full of love, laughter, learning and the most incredible little personalities. Watching the children grow, develop and thrive in my home is truly the most rewarding part of everything we do.

To all our amazing families past and present — thank you for trusting us with your children, for your continued support, and for being such a huge part of our journey. We genuinely couldn’t do this without you.

To my wonderful team — thank you for your dedication, care, and the love you bring every single day. LMC wouldn’t be what it is without each of you.

And to our beautiful children — you are the heart of LMC. Every smile, every milestone, every cuddle… you make it all worthwhile.

From a small idea during uncertain times, to the setting we are today — and now being part of something even bigger as a Stronger Practice Hub partner at HEART - Midlands Early Years Stronger Practice Hub — I feel so proud of how far it has all come.

Here’s to everything we’ve achieved… and everything still to come 💜

Happy 5th Birthday LMC! 🎂✨

What does ‘school readiness’ actually mean for young children? And how do we make sure that every child gets all the support they need on their developmental journey to starting school?

Today, we’re delighted to launch a free best practice guide and podcast on school readiness, designed for practitioners, local authorities, educators and anyone with an interest in early childhood development.

Based on the A Better Start Insights Report published last year, the guide takes a holistic approach and is divided into three sections:

1. Children’s readiness for school
2. Schools’ readiness for children
3. Families and communities’ readiness for school

Using practical examples from 10 years of work across A Better Start partnerships, you can access resources, reflective questions and videos to inspire your practice with learning from a decade of place-based delivery.

Access the free guide: https://www.ncb.org.uk/what-we-do/practice-and-programmes/focusing-early-years/better-start/school-readiness-best-practice

To support the guide, Claire Dunne and Richard Newson from the team at the National Children's Bureau have been speaking to practitioner trainer, early years specialist and deputy head at a maintained nursery school, Jacqui, about how she approaches school readiness. And Isla, mother of three, also shares what it was like getting her children ready for school, and gives advice for practitioners.

Listen now to the A Better Start: Reframing school readiness podcast – link in the comments below.
