On Thursday 5th March, Foundations celebrated World Book Day with a day full of stories, imagination and fun! The children were invited to dress up as their favourite book characters, and it was wonderful to see so many creative costumes.

Throughout the day, each age group enjoyed activities inspired by some of their favourite books. Our Under 2s explored animal-themed sensory books, discovering touch, texture and sounds through interactive stories.

Our 2–3 year olds enjoyed classic tales such as The Tiger Who Came to Tea and Goldilocks and the Three Bears, bringing the stories to life through themed activities.

Our Pre-School children explored The Gruffalo, where they made delicious Gruffalo Crumble, created printed caterpillars inspired by The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and used pipettes to help Superworm “grow”.

World Book Day helps promote a lifelong love of reading, supports early literacy development, and encourages children to explore new worlds and perspectives through stories. To continue the excitement at home, every child also received a £1 book token to help them choose a new book to enjoy.

It was a fantastic day celebrating the magic of books!

Teamwork!
Today the preschool children worked in teams of two to move all the balls from one basket to the other. The children used their motor skills to pull the string to move the hoop back and forth transporting one ball at a time.

Spring painting!
The preschool children took their paints to the garden to use the flowers as inspiration for their masterpieces. This activity supports their fine motor and pre-writing skills, using cotton buds as their painting tool to encourage the tripod grip.

This activity encourages children's exploration, curiosity, appreciation and respect for living things.

Messy play!
Today we have explored cornflour and water play. This helps development in several areas including,
- Play with one or more other children, extending and elaborating play ideas.
- Show a preference for a dominant hand.
- Make comparisons between objects relating to size, length, weight and capacity.
- Explore how things work.
- Explore and talk about the different forces they feel.
