🧸 Paddington’s Adventures 🧸
We are so excited to share our new friend Paddington with you all. Paddington will join the children on their nursery adventures and get involved in lots of fun and learning.
Paddington is also going to go on some adventures with the teachers, children and families outside of nursery. We can’t wait to share his adventures with you.
This week Paddington went on his first adventure to Ward End park with the children and their families. Here he was excited to see the ducks, climb trees, find snails, learn about how to stay safe next to the water, connect with nature and have a rest at the cafe with a piece of cake. 🍁🍂🦆🌳
In nursery the children will look at the pictures of Paddington’s adventures and reflect on what he has been up to and talk about their own learning and adventures too 💕

🍁🍂🌿🐌… and the investigation begins!
The children were fascinated to look through the microscope at the snail and see it in more detail.
“It’s gooey” “it looks like an alien” 🐌
Then we went on to place and arrange the leaves in to colour and size on our collage. Excellent maths and descriptive language used. “I need a long one” “this one is short” “1,2,3,4….” “This is black, I need the green one”🌿
Next time you go out for a walk, see what natural resources you can find….. the learning is endless 🌿🍁🍂🐌🌳

🍁 A wonderful autumn walk this morning 🍁
Our children and parents did a great job hunting for natural autumn objects from the park. We have an array of leaves, sticks, stones, flowers and even some insects.
We are so excited to investigate these further with the children in nursery.

We had a lovely afternoon hosting a visit from Irfan Syaifuddin from Universitas Islam Nigeri Raden Mas Said Surakarta (UIN Surakarta) Indonesia.
It was a pleasure to participate in his research and discuss our approach to outdoor learning, inclusion and our Early Years curriculum.
Thank you to our friends and colleagues at CREC for this opportunity.

✨ At Highfield we believe in play based learning. Our children are given the freedom, time and space to play alongside knowledgeable and supportive adults, who can scaffold and support learning through children’s play and interests ✨

🌳 Outdoor Learning 🌳
Being outdoors allows children to connect with the natural world around them. It is important to us at Highfield that our children have the time, space and freedom to explore the natural outdoor classrooms.
We take children outdoors in all weathers, and whilst out in our nature garden children are encouraged to use their senses by observing, touching, smelling, listening and sometimes tasting the world around them.
At Highfield we believe ‘the best classrooms are roofed by the sky’ as said by one of our pioneers Margaret McMillan 🌍🍃☁️🌤️

✨Early Years Maths ✨
The concentration and persistence this little one had whilst creating her own number line made us really proud.
