Dear Parents and Carers

Following the announcement from Buckingham Palace of the death Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, a period of National Mourning has started and will continue until the end of the State Funeral. This is a period of time for reflection in response to the death of the Sovereign.

The official date of the State Funeral is Monday 19th September 2022. This has been declared a Bank Holiday and we have been instructed to close on the day as a mark of respect. There will, therefore, be no provision for children on the day.

With great regard
The Highfield Nursery School Staff Team

It has been lovely to welcome new and returning children back to nursery over the last week.
If you have any further questions during your child’s settling period please speak to their key person or a member of staff.

🐛 Our children were excited each day to check up on the caterpillars as they have been in their cocoons for a while. “It’s been a long time, when will the butterfly come”.

🦋 On Friday the children were so happy to see that four butterflies had hatched from their cocoons, “look it’s working now.”

👋 Next week we look forward to setting the butterflies free in our nursery garden.

✍️ It was lovely to see how the children have enjoyed retelling the Hungry Caterpillar story through their mark making “He’s so big because he ate so much food.”

☀️ As the weather is set it get really hot next week, please can we remind all parents to apply sun cream to children before coming to nursery, and don’t forget to bring a hat and wear loose clothing.

⚠️ Parents please continue to send your children to nursery wearing sun cream, sun hats and loose clothing as the weather is set to be hot again this week. We will continue to monitor and ensure children have safe access to outdoors during the hot weather.

Using open ended materials allows children to explore their imagination and role play by creating worlds of their own and offering opportunities for them to play out their real life experiences.

😊 We were very happy to welcome all our children and families back to nursery.

📦 The children have used their fine motor skills to thread cable ties and ribbons on the cardboard - this led to constructing houses from the cardboard.

🧧 We talked a lot about different celebrations in particular Chinese New Year. Wishing a very Happy Chinese New Year to all families celebrating.

🎨 We have been getting messy in the studio exploring paint with our bodies including our feet!

👮🏼‍♀️ Next week following the children’s interests we will be learning more about the different people who help us and talking about our right to be safe.

🎨 The children have enjoyed the a range of painting activities. In particular they have enjoyed learning new techniques when painting. Some children preferred to draw pictures first and then paint them, others were happy to explore the different colours.

❄️ The children used cornflour in the studio to mix with and they said it was like snow!

🔨 We are revisiting the woodwork daily and the children are becoming more confident using the different tools and showing an understanding of how they need to be used safely.

💪 In the garden the children continue to access a range of gross motor physical activities where they are building their upper body strength through push, pull and rolling activities.

✨ Welcome back to nursery ✨

😀 What a wonderful start to the New Year we had last week. The children returned happy and eager to get stuck in to play and learning.

❄️ We had lots of fun on the garden, it may have been cold but we wrapped up warm and enjoyed the fresh air and small snow showers. The children were fascinated by the ice they found in the garden, they touched it, looked through it and stomped on it. As it melted away it sparked a discussion about where ice comes from. We hope to see more in the garden this week.

💪The children joined in lots of large gross motor physical activities this week they used their upper body muscles to move the tyres around the garden and then watched as they rolled down the hill.

🚒 Indoors the children have enjoyed creating vehicles with the large construction, learning to use new tools in the woodwork and also creating pieces of art in the studio.

✨ We look forward to what next week brings and we wish you all a Happy New Year ✨

✨ We hope you all have a wonderful break and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to nursery on Tuesday 4th January ✨

🎄 The last two weeks of nursery have been full of festive fun and learning. The children have been learning about different celebrations and what events are special to them.

🎨 The children made their own salt dough tree decorations and had lots of fun getting creative and decorating them to hand on our tree.

🎅🏽 We were all very excited to have a visit from Santa at our Christmas parties. The children sang with him and welcomed him to their classroom.

🎥 We ended our week with a cosy Pyjama and movie day.
